A 26-year-old man was shot dead after attacking a rival with a knife outside Khlong Chan Flats in Bangkok in the early hours of 1 October. Police from Lat Phrao Police Station were alerted at 00.30 and found the victim, identified as Mr Kulphong, lying in a pool of blood with two gunshot wounds to the neck and leg. A knife was recovered beside the body, while the alleged gunman, 33-year-old Mr Kraiwee, had already been taken to hospital with stab wounds.

The incident took place opposite Khlong Chan Flats 10, Soi Seri Thai 7, Bang Kapi District. Witnesses told police that the victim had walked repeatedly in front of a local kratom shop before entering with a knife in hand. He allegedly lunged at Mr Kraiwee, stabbing him in the face and body, prompting the injured man to push him away and fire a warning shot, which hit the attacker in the leg.

Despite the gunfire, the victim reportedly returned carrying a white foam box, trying to use it as a shield and attempted to attack again. Mr Kraiwee then fired a second shot, striking him fatally. Rescue volunteers and forensic officers examined the scene, while relatives rushed the injured gunman to hospital, where he underwent surgery under police custody.

Preliminary investigations suggest the conflict stemmed from a personal confrontation. Mr Kulphong had been released from prison about a week earlier and Mr Kraiwee allegedly asked him if he had just been released, which may have been interpreted as mockery. This led to the violent escalation, though police are continuing to investigate the precise motive.

Officers from Lat Phrao Police Station have secured evidence and are awaiting a full statement from the hospitalised suspect. Once his condition stabilises, he will be questioned further and legal proceedings will follow. Forensic analysis and witness testimonies will also form part of the ongoing inquiry.

"Despite the gunfire, the victim reportedly returned carrying a white foam box, trying to use it as a shield..." yeah, that Styrofoam has amazing bullet stopping qualities. Better than Kevlar for sure.
