Who is the best writer on TV? (of all time)

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

I just wonder....

Out of all the writers you might have read on TV, then who is the best writer?

I am not a contender, obviously....

Although, if I had worked harder at my writing, while in school, I might have been.....

I know that you know that I know who is the best writer on TV, yet I won't say.

In fact, though, I have said, once or twice, who I think is the best writer on TV....

But, I did not state it PUBLICLY, pubically, or publically.....

I only mentioned it in a PM, way back then, about 10 years ago......

So, of all time, on TV.....

Who would you say is the best writer here, technically?

And, what does it even mean to be the best?

I would say:

If you can write like the  Brontë sisters, then you are a TOP contender.

Who is the best, here, other than.....me....?

Would you even know????

NO!!!!

Most guys here would NOT know....OBVIOUSLY....

But, I am still asking....

Best regards,

GammaRay

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If ONLY....I had been a better writer. If ONLY.

Then, I might not have been given my One-Way Ticket to Palookavile.....(meaning Thailand)....

If only.....and so very sad, really.....

Funny how things work out, though.....

Into the Great Liquid we Go.......

Here is a psychedelic version of the intro to Moby Dick, which ALSO retains the classical glory of Melville's iconic first paragraph.....what do you say????

Call this vessel Ishmael. In a time before the ticking of the bone-clock, or perhaps just yesterday—the calendar sheds its skin—having only the jangling ghosts of coin in my pocket, and finding the tessellated prison of the shore to be a landscape of settled dust, I conceived that I should dissolve myself into the great, liquid Everything and witness the world's dreaming half. It is a method I have for dispelling the soul-static, for re-tuning the frequency of my own blood's song.

Whenever I feel my own face calcifying into a mask of grim stone; whenever a grey, internal drizzle begins to rust the very gears of my spirit; whenever I find my waking form pausing before the final, silent architecture of coffin-makers, and find myself tasting the dust at the tail end of every slow parade of forgetting; and especially whenever the humming cacophony in the mind-attic gets such an upper hand of me that it requires a cosmic-level negotiation to prevent me from deliberately stepping from the curb to scramble the signal of their polite reality, methodically knocking the hats from the heads of strangers to shatter the fragile domes of their private certainties—then, I know the tide of my own being is pulling out, and I must cast myself upon the great waters before I evaporate entirely.

This is my sacrament against the pistol's sharp, singular thought and the void of the ball. With a grand, final certainty, the philosopher embraces his own sharp edge; I, seeking no such solid answer, simply un-tether and take to the ship. There is no strangeness in this. For if they would only listen past the buzzing of the cities, almost all souls, in their quietest octaves, hum the very same ancient thrum for the ocean that I do.

Ah....

I love all that might be tessellated, .... these days....

NOTHING FITS, as you should know....

I miss the days of servants, and being upstairs when others are downstairs.

Jane Austen

The three Bronte Sisters

TV, these days, is not what it once was....

Years ago, we had talented writers to entertain us.....

As you will recall....

OK.

I have taken your criticism to heart....

And, I have spent the past hour trying to improve upon Melville's greatest first paragraph.....

Here is what I have come up with, so far.

Call me Ishmael. It is the name I last remember from the shore. Some ages ago—never mind how long, for the heart keeps its own faithless time—with my purse a hollow gourd for the rattling ghosts of coin, and the shore a hard alphabet of streets spelling no word of interest to my soul, I took it into my head to dissolve the knot of myself and see the dreaming, liquid half of the sphere. It is my particular physic against a certain gravity of the soul, a way to set the tides of the blood aright. Whenever I feel my own mouth setting into a grim, geological line; whenever my interior weather turns to a perpetual November of the soul, a grey drizzle that extinguishes all inner light; whenever my feet, by some morbid magnetism, steer me to pause before the stark finality of coffin warehouses, and I find I am bringing up the rear of every stranger’s funeral, as if to study the ceremony of being forgotten; and especially whenever a fever of the inner eye gets such an upper hand of me, that it requires a ferocious moral fortitude to keep from deliberately stepping into the thoroughfare and, with a terrifying calm, sweeping the hats from the heads of passers-by—not from malice, but from a desperate, convulsive need to tear the veil of their constructed heavens and show them, just for a second, the howling, star-drowned infinity we all ignore—then, I account it high and holy time to get to sea with all haste. This is my sacrament and my substitute for the pistol's abrupt and finite logic. With a flourish of terrible reason, Cato falls upon his sword; I, with a quieter desperation, take to the ship. There is nothing strange in this. For if they but knew it, almost all men, if they but look into the deepest cistern of their souls, will find it reflecting that same primal ocean, and feel that same ancient, tidal pull toward the great, un-selved mystery of the waters.

=============

Also, Sir....

You might wonder why I created the neologism...."UN-SELVED".....

You see, Sir....

Ishmael longs for escape from the knot of himself, in nautical terms.

The Great Liquid is boundless.

I am referring to the limitless "primal" ocean, and the Great Moby Dick.....

Unselved connotes NO SELF....you see.....

And, Ishmael  ....?????

Is Ishmael egoless?

It's official. The other GG, who is GG 1.0 from my understanding, has apparently replaced you. I wouldn't take it sitting down though. You should take action. Do something about it. Take back your brand! And, no, I don't mean Russel Brand, that pesky serial rapist of London.

There is nothing strange in this.

Most of us look into the deepest cistern of our souls, during the wee hours, such as NOW.....

I, Cato, fall upon my sword, knowing that TV, and society in general, is in decline.

Considering the other GG and me, from a Quantum Perspective, it goes like this:

Let us consider the "doppelgänger quantum theory" of the two GGs on TV.....

We first need to grasp the fundamental quantum concept of....SUPERPOSITION....

What, indeed is superposition?????

image.png.82913f2112a43a6e60a284f50881c93e.png

Let us CLARIFY it further...here....

What this means is that ...... the other GG might be somewhere in the universe, not here, yet still able to post on TV, as me...

This is physically equivalent to, for the other GG....what I would call....The ZERO State...

Please refer to this fantastic, and truly wonderful, MIT lecture..... (Seriously:  A great lecture.  Tks...MIT....!!!!)

Also....who does not love cats, especially physicists....?

No cats are ever harmed during thought experiments performed by physicists....unlike what sometimes happens to cats during experiments performed by biologists.

TV can mean whatever you wish it to mean.

All that is required is a fertile imagination.

Some have an imagination, and some do not.

How vivid is yours.....?

Now you know how to become known in a forum.

By endless troll BS.

Hey, loosen up, it's all entertainment.

It's good to have a laugh now and then. 😂

Nic Pizzalatto. True Detective season one. In my opinion one of the best written TV shows in modern history.

The best writer on AN is probably one of the "lurkers", which in this case is a compliment,

these are the members whose names you see in "recently browsing" but never see them posting.

My reasoning is these are folks who are too intelligent to feed the trolls (the majority of AN posters) and just look on with amusement.

Probably among these more intelligent members is the best writer.

Agreed.

Members with dangerously high post-counts wouldn't - with perhaps a few exceptions - even be in contention.
