A police officer was killed after being struck and dragged for more than 30 metres by a pick-up truck driven by an intoxicated woman in Chiang Kham district, Phayao province. The incident occurred at around 17:30 on 6 October 2025 on a rural road between Thung Mok village and Noen Samakkhi village. Rescue units, police and forensic teams responded to the scene following reports of a road traffic collision.

At the scene, officers found damaged pick-up truck with front-left impact damage. The driver, a 41-year-old woman identified as Ms. Wimonsiri, was in an intoxicated state and unable to speak coherently. Nearby, a motorcycle lay broken in two sections and the body of Police Sub-Lieutenant Taweepong was found on the road. He had suffered multiple fractures and severe head injuries, with torn clothing and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate the pick-up truck was travelling at high speed while the driver was intoxicated. It collided forcefully with the rear of the motorcycle, causing the rider to be propelled forward of the bike and become stuck under the vehicle. The collision dragged him for over 30 metres before being thrown free and coming to rest on the road, fatally injured. Emergency services confirmed the scene as particularly severe and called for forensic examination.

Police took Ms. Wimonsiri into custody immediately after the incident. She was tested for blood alcohol levels and remains under detailed questioning. Authorities confirmed she will face legal proceedings under drunk driving laws, with charges likely to include vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving causing death.
