China has decimated production in most countries, making them dependent on China.

Now the screws are being tightened.

All part of the long term plan.

Unfortunately most of the west can only look to the next election cycle. China plans years ahead.

I think I will see war in my lifetime. I'm 70.

The West is losing because they are funding China by for the sake of cheap goods.    China is no one’s friend.

That means alot of people should be celebrating in my thread seeing as the majority here seem to be anti west

The pundits will flip flop over the next few years and none of us  really know who will win. I prefer this type of confrontation over the alternative.

IMO, putting the breaks on China at this point is difficult considering their powerful economic position and they seem to be capable now of developing their own tech products without relying on western expertise.   If China does become the next USA, I hope not much changes. I  like the world today as it is...

I wonder if this is what is causing the drop in high cost running shoes?

Lots of non-crap on Chinese sights.  Harder to find on Temu but spending a little extra on AliExpress and Taobao I find good stuff.   They have definitely caught up to Nike IMO or at least are almost there.  I can now pickup shoes for 3k that cost 4.5k just 4 months ago.  Ironically because they are so high quality and cheap, I spend more on shoes than ever before.

Nobody is anti-west. Rational people and actual American patriots are anti-Trump.

The difference might be too subtle for those too deep in the fever swamps of the cult to understand.

What you don't see is reality.

Previous Administrations kind of encouraged low wage jobs and polluting industries---especially those which would soon be obviated by technological gains anyway---to go global. That had additional monetary benefits, one for politicians (it put money into the Donor Class of CEOs and big shareholders), and it put excess capital into the hands of foreigners so that outsiders could fund the lifestyle of those in the US, a nation that always runs up massive budget deficits.

It tended to work pretty well, until two things happened: other nations began running up their own massive deficits, and even more rapid technological advances obviated even low skill foreign labor.

The only thing the US consumer will see from the tariffs is higher prices. Jobs are never coming back, because with time (and AI) those jobs will no longer exist.

Put another way, here's what Dave Chappelle said, "Americans want to wear Nikes, not make them". Commerce Sec Lutnick, clueless man that he is, actually said Americans will love to put those tiny little screws into iPhones, all day every day. MAGAs might find that a stimulating challenge, but the other 51% of Americans will not.

  • Popular Post

China's response to successive US regimes restricting sales of semiconductors and lithography equipment to China, not just products produced in the United States, in an attempt to hobble China's advances in AI.

But China is apparently not permitted to respond accordingly.

Rules based international order, I guess.

  • Popular Post

More desperate fabrications, quite the contrary China's economy is growing at a much faster clip than the US, and they are finding alternatives to American buyers very successfully. Same thing happened with Canada. America doesn't want our products, no problem we will find alternatives.

Just one example of the effect of Trump's spectacularly dumb tariff policies. I could cite 100.

Soybeans are the single largest American export to China in terms of value, $12.6 billion worth last year. But as the fall harvest gets underway across the country — 9 percent of planted beans had been harvested as of last week — the country that bought 52 percent of all American soybean exports last year is completely absent.

The cause is retaliatory tariffs China has placed on the United States, making the price of American soybeans unattractive for buyers there. Throughout the summer, farmers hoped the Trump administration and China would reach a trade agreement that would drop the tariff on their crops, but so far, no relief was forthcoming.

Already, the consequences are stacking up for American farmers. On Monday, the Trump administration pledged to support Argentina as it faces economic turmoil. The same day, Argentina suspended its tax on exports of a number of key crops, including soybeans. Shortly thereafter, Chinese companies bought more than one million tons of Argentine soybeans, according to Reuters, increasing the nation’s ability to hold out from buying the crop from America.

Trump is a terrible negotiator, and he has miscalculated the trade war with China to a spectacular and rather embarrassing degree, and America and the American consumers are going to pay a huge price for his failures.

His lack of understanding of globalization is rather astonishing for a man in his position, and it's downright dangerous.

The winner is China , they are getting their Soya from Brazil and

Argentina ,who Trump just gave a loan ? to 20 Billion dollars !

China are also setting up farms all over the World ,they won't

run short of food , Americans need to learn recipes for cooking

with Soys, as they have mountains of the stuff ,thanks solely to

Donald and his wonderful tariffs ,

Lutnick is an overly rich ignoramus. He probably hasn't been to a retail store in 10 years and likely has his minion of assistants do all of his shopping, so the man could not possibly be more out of touch. This is one of the reasons why appointing people like him who live in an alternate universe, is such a dreadful and terrible thing for the American Consumer.

Correct. With many people, such as @angryguy once they got attached to a theory, it is hard to get them detached. They’d screen out unhelpful facts, invent favorable ones, and ignore contradictions in their own claims. Look at those Sandy Hook, multiple fraud convictions, and Jan. 6th truthers, babbling about false flags and crisis actors and all the rest. When people were motivated enough to believe something, they were going to believe it no matter what. There was no such thing as a bridge too far.

The unfortunate thing is that Trump gets crushed every time he enters into a negotiation, the man could not negotiate his way out of a paper bag.

Every adversary that he's ever negotiated with has outsmarted him to a rather astonishing extent. Xi ouclasses creep by 60 IQ points.

Given how Trump has soured relations with most Western nations, by your criterion it follows that most of the west is anti-west. Or maybe you're confusing anti-west with anti-Trump?

Trump is holding the west up, barely. A heavy burden

Trump says no reason to meet China's Xi, threatens tariffs in new rift

He said there was no reason to hold the meeting with Xi that he had previously announced. Beijing had never publicly confirmed the meeting between the leaders.

....

He added: "I was to meet President Xi in two weeks, at APEC, in South Korea, but now there seems to be no reason to do so."

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-says-no-reason-meet-160109205.html

The US regime had announced a planned meeting in Souf' Korea between Trump and Xi to discuss agriculture purchases.

Trump restricts sales of chips to China.

China restricts sales of "raw earfs" to the US.

Trump has a fit and cancels the meeting that was not even scheduled.

Winning!

If you're saying that Trump has staged a hold-up against most nations in the west, I'm sure that they would agree with you. But as for sustaining the west, how exactly?
