Dual pricing

I sent a message to a well known hospital dealing with cosmetic matters, name beginning with "Y".  I want a mole removed from my ring finger so I can wear a wedding ring.  They wouldn't tell me the price unless I tell them my nationality - I'm guessing that's a pretty overt sign of dual pricing.  They won't be getting my business.

If you are in Pattaya the mole lady Thepprasit night market did the trick for me, 100 baht, yes 100 baht

Oh no, they want to tell the price in YOUR currency. Very polite

You clueless m*r*n.  I didn't mention currency at all.  I've lived in Thailand for more than 20 years, and Baht is my currency.

Wakeup - Tiered pricing is state sanctioned...

I had a similar recent experience...  however it went slightly differently.

Needed an MRI (paying out of pocket as its considered out patient and insurance won't cover it) so don't want to pay through the nose.

Dr called up the MRI Center for me - I heard her say, he's my patient, he lives here, make sure he's charged the Thai price (and I was).

So..  there is most definitely tiered pricing, everyone knows it from foreigners to Dr's...  but, we can push for the local pricing if we have someone, i.e. the Dr. on our side (in many cases).

Thus: OP: Ask a Thai to call up for the same procedure - tell them its non-insurance. Once the fee / cost (is confirmed - ask them to book you in and then re-confirm the price) - thats usually the way around that game or to at least identify where to walk away from.

No

Lots of doctors that work in hospitals also have clinics.  Usually open in the evenings during the week and early saturday.

Search google maps for dermatologist to find one near you.

Not all government hospitals practice dual pricing.  Mae Fah Luang hospital doesn't.

Hospitals that do not see significant volume of  foreigners usually do not have dual pricing. Simply  not worth the administrative headache.

This even applies to some private hospitals.

Very unlikely that your guess is in any way accurate!

She has a stall at the front of Thepprasit night market, look for a Hitachi shop sign on the other side of the street, she is opposite that, check price first, i paid 100, someone else said they were charged more, maybe she tried it on, usually several Thais queuing
