As the article states, the Trump administration is making noise about "going after" deep-pocket sources of funding for what the Trump administration labels as "Domestic Terror Organizations" like Antifa.
Personally I think it's hot-air as Trump will never actually go after other billionaires who operate NGOs and non-profits even if they are funding activities that counter Trump's domestic policies.

Treasury Targets Domestic Terrorism Funding Networks

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has revealed aggressive measures to dismantle financial networks fueling domestic terrorism, emphasizing a "follow the money" approach akin to post-9/11 efforts. In an October 14 interview on "The Charlie Kirk Show," Bessent underscored the department's mission to identify and disrupt funding channels, particularly those linked to nonprofits supporting violent extremism. He highlighted rising anti-Semitism and bias since the October 7, 2023, attacks, vowing to halt such financing while safeguarding rights to free speech and peaceful protest.

This initiative stems from President Donald Trump's September 25 presidential memorandum, which directs the Treasury and IRS to probe tax-exempt entities potentially backing political violence. The strategy aims to preempt threats by analyzing patterns in organizational behaviors and motivations. Earlier, on September 22, Trump designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist group, citing its role in anarchist violence. Bessent noted the Treasury is already assembling a comprehensive list of implicated organizations, with ongoing assessments of domestic nonprofit contributions versus overseas sources.

Lawmakers are amplifying these efforts. Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) urged Attorney General Pam Bondi on October 9 to investigate George Soros-backed groups, referencing a report that Open Society Foundations donated over $80 million since 2016 to entities tied to extremism. Bessent affirmed the resolve to honor victims—like those impacted by recent violence—and protect conservative voices amid threats, including canceled speeches and rally disruptions following assassination attempts on Trump.

Civil liberties advocates, including the ACLU, criticize the memorandum as overreach, warning it stigmatizes activists under vague "domestic terrorism" labels and echoes historical surveillance of civil rights leaders. Despite concerns, proponents argue these steps are essential for national security, targeting only violent actors to prevent future atrocities.

Key Takeaways

  • Treasury's Proactive List-Building: The department is compiling a detailed roster of nonprofits and entities funding domestic terror activities, prioritizing disruption of violent networks.

  • Trump's Strategic Memorandum: The September 25 directive mandates IRS oversight of tax-exempt groups and pattern analysis to counter organized political violence before it escalates.

  • Bipartisan Scrutiny on Funding Sources: Investigations target both U.S.-based and foreign contributions, including over $80 million from Soros-linked foundations to extremist groups since 2016.

Agreed!

Antifa not being an organisation actually makes it easy for Trump, as the target is not circumscribed. Anyone vaguely related to a protest that includes some alleged antifa protesters can be targeted by his sycophants.

Do you not agree that anyone funding violence should be investigated?

So you cannot justify your position in any way.

Pathetic.

He must have gotten trolling lessons from Chuck Schumer, because he does not even have a bait in the water. Look at the picture. Pathetic indeed

What seems like a leftist (charged rhetoric) organization advocating for NGO's ,The National Council for non profits said this in their headline,...

... "Attacks on Freedom of Speech: What Nonprofits Need to Know". Then it goes on to attack the administration in quotes(below) for attacks on ideologies & freedom of Speech .

"President Trump signed on September 25, 2025 a presidential memorandum, “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence,” directing federal agencies to investigate, prosecute, and disrupt nonprofit organizations the Administration claims is supporting or funding domestic terrorism. With the memorandum, the Administration continues its targeted attack on nonprofits that oppose its priorities and ideology".

AI Overview:is terrorism protected by the first amendment?

"No, terrorism itself is not protected by the First Amendment. However, the line is complex because the First Amendment does protect the advocacy of political ideologies, even if unpopular, unless that speech directly incites or is likely to incite imminent violence.

General ideological discussion: Communication of violent political ideologies is protected, but once it moves to incitement, threats, or conspiracy, it loses its protection".

The administration has instructed all agencies to coordinated in the investigation,  a historic effort .The Administration will use a text book case to prove their claims.  The administration has a 10 year window of opportunity  dating back to the origins of far left Antifa & other far left radical extremists movements in the USA.

The determining factor will be to show the difference between freedom of speech and incitement of violence. God knows their is documented coverage of riots , violent protests and arrests videos ,now to tie it to funding (follow the money) trail should be easy.

I didnt participate in the vote. I look at the whole 10 year  picture of radical leftist attacks. Is it possible to catch one NGO, antiamerican  enough to make a bone head financial transaction, I think so.

Trump’s justice department cited a report from conservative watchdog group Capital Research Center, titled “Exclusive: Soros’ Open Society gave $80 million to pro-terror groups.”
