Thailand's Revenue Department has issued a reminder for all earners, including online influencers and sellers, to declare and pay taxes on their income. This announcement comes in light of increased scrutiny following singer Ratchanok “Janey” Suwannaket's significant earnings from livestream sales. The department aims to enforce equitable tax practices without focusing on specific professions.

Deputy director-general Panuvat Luangvilai emphasized that every income, whether from product sales, livestream commissions, or promotions, should be declared. Earners should assess their total income, apply deductions based on actual expenses or a standard 60% allowance, and pay personal income tax, which varies from 5% to 35%. Sellers with annual sales exceeding 1.8 million baht are also required to register for VAT, while corporate income tax applies to businesses operating under legal entities.

Panuvat mentioned ongoing investigations to confirm if income claims, especially by livestreamers, are genuine or manipulated for publicity. The department is collaborating with platforms like Shopee, Lazada, Grab, and Line Man to verify reported earnings and ensure compliance.

The Revenue Department has initiated the RD10X Project to enhance enforcement, training local officers in digital tax compliance for online businesses and influencers. Concurrently, they are developing AI systems to track online trading patterns and verify if tax filings match actual sales.

Looking ahead, digital systems and partnerships are expected to advance tax compliance and transparency. Future developments will focus on refining AI tracking measures and expanding platform collaborations to safeguard revenue integrity.

Key Takeaways

  • All income, regardless of source, must be declared for taxation in Thailand.
  • The Revenue Department is engaging with online platforms to ensure accurate reporting.
  • New technology and training initiatives are being implemented to enhance tax enforcement.

I will ring the bell for all you guys the first time a influencer reports their true income..I dont think I will be doing any bell ringing.....Heck I doubt any of them will ever even bother reporting....Now....Or in the future...Ever....

Online sales are a tax dodgers best friend....

The new tax laws will achieve exactly what the Thai government wants... expats will leave and few "high value" ones will relocate here, as Thailand is lightyears behind other places, and offers little to the very rich. I think that sooner or later this will be quietly swept under the carpet and not really enforced once they realise what a loser it is... like so much else.

Actually, I think the truth is that they only want the 2-week/month-long spenders, then leave types and no-one else... they are just dressing it up is BS.

This fancy AI finder system is going to also bite those on the a$$ that implement it. Careful what you wish for, and please GO AFTER THE BIG FISH, not just the little people!

The big fish lead the country (as anywhere), they make the rules and the way to dodge them.

This is a really important move by Thailand’s Revenue Department. As the digital economy keeps growing, especially through influencers and online sellers, it’s fair that everyone contributes their share of taxes. Collaborating with major platforms like Shopee and Lazada is a smart step — transparency and accurate data will be key.

I also like that they’re using AI and improving officer training to handle digital tax compliance. If implemented well, it could really modernize Thailand’s tax system and build more trust in the process.

I don't think this is targeting foreigners as much as you do.

Lately, there has been a lot of vdos in FB and TikTok with some Thai woman claiming she is making millions of baht daily

The last Vdo wife showed me was with this woman participating and bragging 60 million in sales in a day. I think they are making this announcement because the few Thais doing this, are not claiming the actual amounts or are showing fake amounts of sales to gain popularity. I know sure that my wife is watching daily these things as she is always talking about them and bragging how much money can be made.

Yes people, pay up, we need more money and maybe, just maybe, we will pay Thai pensioners 100 baht

more a month.

Must be a lot of online influencers here in Thailand promoting how good it is to live and work in Thailand

Hoping they are paying their taxes like good Thais do

It's only fair for having the privilege of  living and working  in the Land of smiles 🤑

Net income........ And how do they want to control that:coffee1:

Great. Tax these useless influencers and online peddlers and leave the retired community alone.

Digital nomad visa holders are going to be the prime target here.

Across the board and in many different scenarios, Thailand seems to think that foreigners are psychic, or read the daily government updates, to be 100% up to speed on "laws" .  The thing is, they require us to constantly update them where we are.  We can't even use a bank without a verified sim card registration.  So, it is 2025, do you think they could (A) Have a website with Foreigner advisors to write in plain English what ALL the rules are? (2) Send quarterly e mails will regulation updates? (3) Send text messages for "urgent updates" ? Oh, wait, the nurse is here and says it is time for a double dose of my medication.  Never mind ... got a bit dizzy there.

Why do you think foreigners are the prime target, there are plenty of Thai influencers, much better looking than you, who make millions.

Leave it to foreigners in Thailand to think that the world, or Thailand, revolves around them.

How? They don't even let them have bank accounts anymore...
