A 23-year-old man has been found severely underweight and too weak to move after consuming only herbal Kratom water for an extended period instead of plain water. The case, shared widely on social media, has raised health concerns about the potential dangers of excessive kratom drink consumption.

The incident was reported on 21 October by Facebook user Jirasak Prayonghom, who posted a warning after discovering the young man’s condition. The post described how the man, who lived alone in a rented room, had been drinking kratom water for several months while eating very little food. When the landlord entered to carry out maintenance, he found the tenant lying among piles of kratom drink bottles and waste.

According to the report, the man appeared emaciated, disoriented and too weak even to type messages on his phone. He was believed to have been living in these conditions for at least a month. The room reportedly contained bottles of urine and bags of rubbish, indicating severe neglect and possible malnutrition. Details of the location were withheld for privacy reasons.

Following the incident, the popular Facebook page “Drama-addict”issued a health warning to the public. The page explained that “kratom water” commonly refers to various herbal decoctions that may cause long-term side effects if consumed excessively. Reported effects include dry or darkened skin, weight loss, and, in some cases, damage to the liver and intestines.

Medical professionals generally recommend balanced hydration through clean drinking water and caution against replacing it entirely with herbal infusions, which may alter the body’s electrolyte balance or contain active compounds that strain internal organs.

The case has served as a cautionary example, highlighting the need for better awareness about the safe use of herbal products. Authorities and health experts have urged the public to seek professional medical advice before adopting alternative health practices that could lead to serious harm.
