I wasn't born until 1968 but in the early 80's, when most lads of my age were listening to new wave etc, I was massively into The Who, Kinks, Small Faces, Yardbirds etc. Bowling around in my Ben Sherman's and 'tonic' suits. Got a fair bit of ridicule but also got my fair share of girls as well for being slightly different.

Still got a few bits of original 60's vinyl that I collected back in the day. Might be worth a couple of quid now. I also liked the 80's mod groups of the time - The Jam (saw them twice live on their farewell tour), The Chords, Secret Affair, Lambrettas etc. Two Tone cut across that which I loved. Still one of my favourite tunes of all times is Save It For Later by The Beat.

Bank holidays would be spent down Southend seafront (far closer than Brighton) where it would be mods, skinheads and casuals. Never kicked off much though - all quite cordial.

Very, very fond memories.

"they weren't good times at all"

That should be framed and put with every post of yours .    It is a remarkable insight into your "life"   :

Common signs of social media addiction  :

an uncontrollable need to post, post, post .

note:  it doesn't annoy me george .    have at it

No mobile phones. No selfies. Just fish and chips, bingo, and the sound of seagulls nicking your ice cream.
A trip to the seaside used to mean excitement, freedom — and wearing your Sunday best even if it was freezing. Blackpool, Margate, Southend… take your pick.
When the high street was buzzing, and so were we.

At three, my Mum found me in the back garden with half a worm in my hand!

I am still here!

She headlined the first tour which The Beatles went on. Dunno who I loved more, her or them.

Pretty fancy. Not wrapped in newspaper. My dad had a fish and chip shop in the 60's.

Happy Day's, Mother worked at Woolies in Wealdstone, and my Sister and I used to be allowed a couple of sweets per visit, probably why I have hardly any of my own teeth left.

Maybe not brushing your teeth and flossing played a part in you not having teeth left.      How's your breath?

As kids growing up in Manchester we had Belle Vue fun park, in the photo you can see the "Bobs" as we called them was also home to the "Aces" the speedway stadium, we used to save up and go watch the speedway and then go in the fair ground, that was in the early 60's,

I never liked the vaulting horse much but I preferred that to the wall bars or the stupid climbing climbing ropes.

My home town of Poole used to have a football stadium (Southern League) and inside there was also a motorcycle speedway track and a dog racing track. Speedway racing was on Friday nights During the first full week of November every year in the 1950s was the travelling funfair on the stadium car park. The stadium was behind the old Fire Station and the GPO Telephone Office  and just up the road from Henry Harbin Secondary Modern school where I went from 1955 to 1959.

Opposite the bus station was the Ladies Walking Field where both Billy Smart's and Bertram Mills had their circus most summers, just across the railway line from the gas holders and just down from Poole Grammar school for boys and the council swimming pool and Poole Park. The Parkstone Grammar School for girls was over 2 miles away.

Mostly all gone now.
