Bangkok police have arrested an Iranian man and woman for allegedly snatching 1,600 US dollars from an Indian national in a shopping mall on 23 October 2025. The suspects, Mostafa, 41 and Marzieh, 36, reportedly approached the victim under the pretext of examining his US dollar banknotes before taking the money. The incident was quickly reported to mall security, who detained the suspects until police arrived.

The arrest was coordinated by Pathumwan Police Station under the direction of Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom and senior officers from Division 6. Authorities received a report of suspicious foreign individuals asking to view foreign currency and potentially committing theft. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the suspects had taken the cash from the 46-year-old Indian victim.

According to the victim, the suspects struck up a conversation, asking to see his U.S. dollars and appeared to first return all the money. However, the victim soon discovered that 16 bills, $1,600, were missing and immediately pursued the couple. The victim pursued them to the first floor of the mall and confronted them near the H &M store, prompting one suspect to retrieve the stolen money from a black shoulder bag. Security personnel then assisted in restraining the suspects until police could take over.

Both suspects denied the allegations during questioning. Police have charged them with “joint robbery” and have taken them, along with the recovered cash, to Pathumwan Police Station for further legal action. The case highlights the vigilance of both mall security and law enforcement in preventing and responding to theft.

People who are not in their right mind ?

Its a very odd tale...  as Mike_Hunt implies (carrying cash in a clear bag) - how would the Iranians know the India lad was carrying around that much cash?...   I can only assume they followed him from a Money-exchange booth.
