Police in Prachinburi have confirmed that the body found in a cassava field belonged to a Myanmar national, who was brutally murdered by another Myanmar worker now believed to have fled across the border. The victim, identified as 20-year-old “Wai,” was discovered in Ban Map Patong, Moo 12, Sri Maha Phot district, on 24 October 2025. His body was found face down, with his wrists bound by red nylon rope, his throat slashed and 22 stab wounds to his back, causing his intestines to spill out.

The investigation was led by Pol Lt Kritsada Nuthong from Rabop Phai Police Station, following an alert from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue unit. Forensic police later confirmed the extent of the victim’s injuries, describing the attack as “extremely violent.” A woman identified as “Bee,” a 22-year-old Myanmar national, arrived at the scene to identify the body, confirming it was her boyfriend, Wai, based on a scar on his right knee, his long fingernails and the clothes he had been wearing when last seen.

Bee told police that on 20 October, Wai had left their workers’ camp on a motorcycle with a fellow worker named “Chiku,” also from Myanmar. Later that evening, Chiku returned to the camp alone. That night, Bee received a message from Wai’s phone saying he was “returning to Myanmar” and asked her to transfer 20,000 baht. Fearing something was wrong, she sent 10,000 baht but received no further response. After being unable to contact him, she filed a missing person report at Sri Maha Phot Police Station on 21 October.

Pol Col Tawee Kittiviriyakul, superintendent of Rabop Phai Police Station, has ordered a full-scale manhunt for Chiku, who is now the prime suspect. Investigators believe he has already left Prachinburi and was last traced to Suphan Buri province, possibly attempting to cross back into Myanmar. The victim’s body has been sent to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bangkok for a detailed autopsy to confirm the cause and time of death.

Authorities say the case highlights ongoing concerns about crimes involving migrant workers in industrial areas. Police are working with immigration and border officials to track Chiku’s movements and coordinate his capture before he leaves Thailand.

• The murder victim found in Prachinburi has been identified as a Myanmar national named Wai.

I do hope there is a follow-up on the story to show they have caught the killer...

I call bs.  I've had Thais tell me they hate the "beeamar" passionately.  Wouldn't surprise me if the animosity occasionally went as far as murder.
