June Lockhart, a popular actress of the 1950s and ’60s known for her roles in “Lost In Space,” “Lassie” and “Meet Me in St. Louis,” died of natural causes on Oct. 23 in Santa Monica, Calif. She was 100. Lockhart became known for her performances as Timmy’s foster mother, Ruth Martin, on the CBS series “Lassie” from 1958 to 1964. She took over from Cloris Leachman as the Martin family moved on to the famous collie’s farm and became foster parents to both the orphaned Timmy and Lassie. https://variety.com/2025/film/news/june-lockhart-dead-lost-in-space-lassie-1236561320/

Just watched her yesterday in a forgotten film from 1946, She-Wolf of London.

Season 1 episode 10 of Magnum PI (1980) had June Lockhart and Jose Ferrer playing the older versions of the same characters played by Anne Lockhart and Miguel Ferrer.

Wow. 100. Loved Lost in Space.  Think it had the best themes ever - John Williams best work. It was popular in Australia as reruns throughout the 70's.

The very early b&w episodes were good. Then, Dr. Smith took over the show. Hard to believe that June Lockhart was active in films for nine decades. And she will always be something of a symbol of 1950s and maybe 1960s America.

Fond memories of watching Lost in Space after school.

RIP

Watching in syndication??? Going off my memory, I think the initial CBS network broadcast was on Wednesdays at 6:30pm CST. It was a big hit in the 5th grade. Amazing that for a show "lost in space," once they landed they hardly ever again moved. They didn't go and meet space aliens; the aliens came to them. Will never forget when Dr. Smith was turned into a vegetable, a giant carrot, I think.

Oops! It was a head of lettuce, not a carrot.

I grew up in London. I remember watching it on BBC (on black and white tv). Dr Zackary Smith was the most memorable character in the series.

Dr Smith was a conniving individual...he did some <deleted>ty things to poor little Will.

In the early 1970s she was dating a star of a current Broadway (NYC) hit play, about 20 years younger than herself.  The press hung around the stage door to get pics of the pair, so she got a lot of mention in the local press.  "Now there's a lady who knows how to scratch her itch!" was my take.  It also got her away from her "mom" image.  Maybe that was one of the things that allowed her to live to three digits

Here's to you, Mrs Space-family Robinson!
