Five people, including an 8-year-old girl, were found unconscious in the middle of a road at Baan Ua-Arthorn Bang Pu, Samut Prakan, late on 25 October 2025,. Volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded promptly, providing emergency aid and transporting all five individuals to hospital for treatment.

The group had purchased pork from a local market, for cooking on a mu kratha and began eating together shortly before the incident. The girl experienced dizziness, vomiting and extreme fatigue, collapsing almost immediately. The other individuals in the group exhibited similar symptoms, falling unconscious nearby.

Eyewitnesses reported that the symptoms appeared shortly after consuming the food. Authorities suspect the incident may have been caused by eating jellyfish mixed in with the pork by the vendor, which can lead to severe allergic reactions or food poisoning if not properly prepared. Symptoms observed included nausea, vomiting, and breathing difficulties, signalling a potentially serious reaction.

Medical responders ensured that all five patients received immediate care at the scene before being rushed to hospital. Experts warn that some jellyfish species may be edible, but improper preparation or toxic varieties can result in dangerous reactions. Rapid intervention is crucial when breathing problems or severe symptoms occur.

Authorities are now collecting food samples and taking statements from those involved to determine the exact cause of the poisoning. People are advised to exercise caution when consuming food from local markets. Emergency services emphasise seeking immediate medical attention if similar symptoms occur.

No pork can be so rotten that you instantly fall over.

You couldnt stand the stench.

You will throw up heavily after few minutes (my experience).

But you don't fall unconscious.

As suggested it must be related to this jellyfish.

Some people need the thrill.

I am shuddering when I see this raw squid eating.

I saw jellyfish on the menu in Chantaburi a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't realised before there were so many types.

The sea there, unfortunately, had many round, whiteish 'moon' jellyfish which caused the skin to itch but not sting.

Presumably this was a different variety at Bang Pu.

I don't think you are meant to eat the bits that sting. Why anyone would want to ruin a good pork dish with a jellyfish is beyond me, may as well eat the plastic bag and the rubber bands it was packaged in.

Recently saw fishing boats return after a night out fishing at Pranburi, thinking they might have fresh/live crabs or shrimp I stopped at the beach-side and inquired as to how the catch went...  no crabs they said we were fishing for jellyfish, showing me one of many buckets holding them.. looked like a gallon of snot..

I said thanks and carried on.

I used to enjoy the Famous Five books when I was a kid, but it sounds like Enid Blyton was running out of ideas here.

Raw jellyfish not squid, some jelly fish very toxic your right that's what probably caused this, lucky no one died.

MK has jellyfish on the menu.

No flavour to speak of, more of a textural thing.
