My friend is the owner of a chain of cafes. He has a very wide circle of friends, of all economic backgrounds, who all get coffee at his place. I actually introduce her to him already. He's a very likeable and sociable guy, tried his best to engage her. She was charming but afraid to talk a lot.

Not even one of my women throughout my lifetime thus far, has asked for money, let alone a salary. Paying someone 20,000 baht a month for her to stay with them, doesn't fit my definition of a girlfriend. It's certainly a kind of relationship.  To most readers here, it would appear to be her job and you would be paying her a salary, expecting value for money. You would be keeping tabs on her. If she wanted days off to go anywhere alone, that would not be deemed acceptable. A caged bird. Sounds an unhappy situation.
