It really never ceases to amaze how random citizens here will group together and chase down a foreigner who has had a fight (or even just a heated argument) with a Thai and gangbeat him (basically attempted murder) like it is their national civic duty 😳

I have always said that when you are in a foreign country if you have a dispute with a food bill , bar bill  , shop keeper  , taxi driver or bargirl you can question it and argue your case and if you can see that you are getting nowhere just pay up and move on. After all you are only a visitor in their country and if you follow my theory you won't get your head kicked in like that bloke.

Probably 20 years ago when I used to stay out until 3am in Patong Phuket I would regularly walk back home from my local bar, it was a one way street.

 

A few times a motorbike carrying two ladyboys would stop near me in a quiet part of the road, they would get off and approach me, I would then jog off down the road laughing, they would laugh too, as they were wearing high heels they could not follow, and it was a one way street.

 

They were not aggressive but I know the scenario, one would touch your arm for instance so you would try and stop 'her', that was the distraction while the other went for your wallet, it would not be a mugging but a pickpocket scenario. 

 

It was also best to avoid trouble as fighting them would not solve anything and who knows if they carry a knife. 

 

As a comparison if I walk down the street and I come across a dog turd I would walk around it and not try and find the dog who did it to give it a kick. 😄

 

Why this guy beat up the ladyboy is hard to understand, he should know 'she' would have friends nearby ready to help in such a crowded area.

Have you experienced "vip" treatment here in Thailand?  I have, just about everywhere I go, people treat you far better than they do the locals.  It would probably cause a bit of resentment in the general population, and my advice is, stay polite, respectful, ALL the time, and NEVER start beating up on anybody, be it ladyboy, girl, or man, if they're local.
