Yes Thailand is a cheap detonation if you know how to manage your expenses and still live comfortly (relatively speaking)

But it is becoming increasingly hard and difficult to obtain retirement permits, open bank accounts and getting driving permits

as I hear from my lawyer friend, Thailand simply don't care for retirees any longer, they don't want them.

790 a month is a meager existence. Small room, no drinking, eating out once a day, no memberships to anything. May as well lower the number and say 500 with that type of life. Confined to your room or sitting at the beach with a bottle of water every day. Then of course you would surely be alone all the time. I know a guy who was living on about 800 a month.. He went out once a month to girlie bars. Ate at buffets once a day..Always miserable, always begging or using others to buy him drinks and ask him to parties. The girls he brought home from the bars, always disappeared after the first night together. They did not want anything to do with him. Mediocre life if living on such a small sum monthly in Jomtien.

If it's a horrible life in Jomtien it's a horrible life anywhere else, as well.

Cheap as other retirees were sucked into bad property investments and now the rent is super low as it is a ghetto. When is this orange properties going to court anyway?

Didn't watch the video but I assume it's what I have been saying for sometime regarding Greater Pattaya being a terrific place to retire.   I say 'Greater Pattaya' because one of the big pluses is you have a really good choice of areas to live in.  Spouse and I were in Jomtien, and liked it.  We were also in Wong Amat and liked that area, too.  Also, central Pattaya and Pratamnuk.

In each area, we found a great choice of housing available, at all price ranges, to rent or own.   We are now on the Darkside, in a nice pool villa, and are very much liking it here, as well.  Each area offers its own vibe--and, as we are older now, we like the more relaxed, quieter Darkside vibe, with a much larger living space to enjoy.

I'm talking about the foreigners who arrive, VERY LITTLE MONEY, they just sit in their little apartment. Then they get on their warrior keyboards and start with nasty, hostile comments because they feel sorry for themselves.

I used to hang out with 2x NZ guys in CM that had 20kbht a month, we would go on m/c trips to waterfalls and swimming holes, shopping malls, coffee shop every morning, KFC for lunch, beer in the evening. Nobody needed to sit in their room all day. In Jomtien you can hang out at the beach, drinks from 7-11, use the pool or gym in your apartment ........ no need to spend much money every day.

I really don't understand people needing to spend money all the time.

My morning walking around the lake and having coffee with a pal ........ 80bht for the two of us. Up at 6:30, walking around the lake by 7:15 (4Km), coffee at 8:15, back home by 9:15.

I lived in Jomtien last year (I also had a house at Khanom Beach). I rented a top floor, furnished apartment with sea-view balcony, about 200 metres from the beach for 7,000 THB/month. Very nice, but the smell of cannabis wafting up from all the Russian residents on the lower floors was not good for my lungs!

Apart from that, very nice, safe, close to amenities etc.

Even had roof access for my satellite antennas 🙂

Yes, he was a bad egg

I haven't seen him for ages, I used to see him around covid time, on Pattaya Beach outside VT6.

Convenient, it was good for the police just a short walk to his apartment from The Cop Shop.

Having the option of any women at all as a retired guy is amazing!

I did a return to the Usa a few years ago for about a year. I did not get laid at all. The women were just not interested. The only realistic option for a lot of older guys over there is street hookers, but it's very risky and not worth it (there are police stings all over, pimps, etc). The dating apps are full of other guys pretending to be women or using it as entertainment when guys respond. It's rare to even get a response on the apps. In person approaches risk harrassment accusations.

Don't worry though, rock stars and famous artists still do pretty well..

CondoTel building, studio, fine for 1 person because I also rented at the same time a detached house near Khanom Beach (also for 7,000 THB/month).

So for $430/month I rented 2 near-beach properties, plus my rented car at another 7k/month THB.

As they say regarding money, how long is a piece of string.  I live a very happy retirement on a small budget 🙂

You guys who call Jomtien home, expect an influx of disrespectful, cheap, nasty foreigners.

I bet the girls working at Cheap Charlie's are looking forward to more scum bags eating at their restaurant.

Hello antagonizer, hostility from your keyboard.

Can't keep scrolling, nothing to do with you but you got to post stupid stuff.

Have I ever attacked anyone from my keyboard?

Nice. Cheap too. I spend 90 baht on two iced coffees, large, delivered. I should move to CM, I would save 10 baht a day.

I could live in Jomtien!

Jomtien has terrible traffic.

Way too overrun with people, as it's too small a place for those hordes.

Shop signs in Cyrillic for the Russians.

Absymal quality beach, though the service is nice, you can lie there, but swimming not advised.

I don't see the attraction frankly with Jomtien. Sure it's cheap, but Chiang Mai is a lot cheaper. And it's bigger, way bigger, and not as overrun. Traffic not as bad. Better restaurant options.

Yes, the quality of Jomtien foreigners is known to be the worst in Thailand.

Also large groups, big families. Not great. In CM there's usually single girl Nomads, single guy Nomads, older guys, okay and few families. But not seen any Indian groups or Russian groups.

by long established popular youtuber Vagabond Awake.

This guy and his Malaysian model partner have been slow traveling most everywhere for many years now.

So they do have an informed opinion.

I do like that they (and others now) are making the important distinction between Pattaya and Jomtien.

I've never seen Naklua or the Dark Side mentioned on any similar global list.

That said, even though they target the retire abroad on a budget crowd, they have not actually done that. They're slow travelers.

So they don't put much value in long term visas for retirement.

Which explains why destinations in Vietnam are so high on their list.

In my view, because of the no visa situation there, Vietnam should not be on any retire abroad list.

But it's still good to see the appreciation of Jomtien.

So he's put Boracay in Phil as a place to retire? Is he touched in the head or something?

And no Chiang Mai, but Bangkok for the retired? Lol. He's clueless.

Agree 1000%.

You never know when VN immigration flip flops on their 90 day border runs.

Better to stay in Thailand with the secure visas.

And solvent retirees. Not all of us are eating out of garbage cans.

I suspect that when Mr Nauseus started typing Gulf of...........Mexico automatically came up, and he didn't check what he was posting.

No, the guy who made the video misspoke and said 'from Koh Samui ... across the Gulf Of Mexico... is Hua Hin'

Brain f@rt for that guy.

Just to make it to Boracay would kill most reitrees stone dead. They'd have a heart attack and die from exhaustion.

He's trying to kill old people.

Boracay has one of the poorest medical systems in all of Asia, it's terrible.

Boracay was just closed for months due to polution from overcrowding. In peak season Boracay is totally overwhelmed with tourists, the infrastructure is poor and can barely handle the locals in off-season.

Prices for accomodation in Boracay are exceptionally high, even for Phliippines.Good luck finding an ATM.

The moto taxis in Boracay are legendary for ripping off tourists, worst scammers in Philippines.

Boracay is LOUD people go there for drinking binges in large groups.

Very limited food options in Boracay, all of them poor and overpriced.

This Youtuber obviously had a nice sexy time there, but to suggest it's an ideal place to retire for retirees just beggars belief.

It's these kind of Youtubers who give Youtube a bad name.

vietnam is changing their mind every now and then about visa condition, but normally its every 3-6 month you have to make a visa trip,

but the yanks have negotiated a better deal, so it doesnt apply to them, its because vietnam wants to appear friendly for business reasons

Canada has a very porous border and open immigration policy.

Have a gander at the faces below and tell me which one was raised on a Canadian farm, for example

You're correct 🙂  I got tired of the cannabis smoke in my condo building and having to drop 800,000 baht into my bank account AND report to Thai immigration every 90 days.

I moved back to live in Luang Prabang (Laos). No 90 day reports, no 800k in the bank needed, safe and peaceful, let the police sleep...
