Authorities have arrested a police sergeant accused of extorting 30,000 baht from a drug suspect in exchange for dropping the case. The arrest took place on 30 October 2025 at the suspect’s residence in Thung Siem subdistrict, Thung Siem district, Sukhothai province. The suspect, Sergeant Sanga, aged 56, was apprehended alongside accomplices by officers from the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC).

The arrest follows an investigation by the PACC into serious criminal and disciplinary misconduct by four police officers involved in a drug-related arrest in Tha Pla district, Uttaradit province. The officers allegedly demanded 30,000 baht from the suspect to avoid prosecution and falsified official documents by forging signatures of other officers. The misconduct was documented as part of a formal report submitted to the authorities.

Following the PACC’s findings, the case was forwarded to the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Anti-Corruption Cases 2, Region 6, which scheduled the four officers to meet prosecutors on 23 July 2025. All four failed to appear without justification and could not be contacted, prompting a manhunt coordinated by the PACC and police.

During questioning, Sergeant Sanga admitted his identity matched the arrest warrant but denied the allegations against him. He was subsequently transferred to the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Anti-Corruption Cases 2, Region 6, to face formal charges of “being an official jointly committing the offence of soliciting or accepting property or benefits improperly” and “forging and using false government documents.”

As authorities continue to trace the other suspects, the case underscores ongoing concerns about corruption within law enforcement, highlighting the mechanisms in place to identify and prosecute misconduct. Authorities have emphasised that rigorous investigations and inter-agency coordination are key to ensuring accountability.

yep, that's not even a monthly salary.

how stupid do you have to be?

No surprise here with regards to the RTP. My query. Is this offence, and is most likely not to be his first, whether or not he will be sacked as he should be in any western culture plus, possibly face jail time?.

in the US... this is a criminal offence and the cop would be charge and most likely convicted by a judge. As for prison time, he may get some but as this is not a violent crime and his 1st offence then he would most likely get probation and/or a short sentence in jail.

Thanks "T" most likely the same would happen here also. Except here, he would be dismissed from the police force as a minimum. But this is Thailand and most likely sent to inactive duty with 100's of other RTP then back to business.🤠
