The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) has detained 20 foreign nationals suspected of involvement with a transnational scam network near the Phak Kad border crossing in Chanthaburi Province. The arrests are part of an intensified military crackdown on illegal border crossings and cross-border crime.

Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaipan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, said on 30 October that the operation was carried out by the Chanthaburi Marine Task Force under the Border Defence Command for Chanthaburi and Trat (BDCT). Naval officers first intercepted three Ugandan nationals near Ban Laem checkpoint and later apprehended 17 Chinese nationals near Phak Kad checkpoint as they attempted to cross into Cambodia illegally.

Preliminary questioning revealed that the group was likely linked to an international scam syndicate operating across Thailand and neighbouring countries. Authorities also discovered that several individuals were using falsified travel documents. All detainees were handed over to Immigration Police for further legal proceedings.

The RTN spokesperson confirmed that naval patrols continue to intensify along the eastern border to curb illegal activities, including smuggling, human trafficking, and cybercrime networks. The crackdown is part of an ongoing national effort to disrupt scam operations that have increasingly targeted both Thai and foreign victims through fraudulent online activities.

Military officials stated that cooperation between Thai and Cambodian border authorities has been strengthened to track movements of transnational crime syndicates. Investigations are now focused on identifying any local collaborators who may have assisted in the escape attempt.
