Exactly. You are gonna override your instinct to fly or freeze and charge the guy while screaming at the top of your lungs, get under that knife arm and start gnawing the neck or face. Or as necessary. Or if on the NYC subway and following my advice, surreptitiously draw the .32 and as you get under his arm, start pulling the trigger on his sternum.

 

Of the various self defense disciplines, I think the most usable for everyone is Tae Kwondo and Krav Maga, although Krav Maga is best suited to very disciplined types because of the harm it could entail.

Wherever necessary. You wont overpenetetrate. Hornaday makes a fab 60 grain xtp load that balloons wonderfully. Plus, lets take the existing scenario, you likely will be coming upward to get under that arm so if your gun  will be fired on an upward trajectory.
