Scam email about Bangkok bank account closure.

I got an email a couple weeks ago from MY email address, so I recognize the legitimate email address and I certainly do know the sender.

I informed myself that I had secretly installed undetectable Pegasus software onto my laptop and other devices.  I then proceeded to tell myself that I had secretly recorded myself administering pleasure to myself whilst viewing highly inappropriate content.  I further instructed myself to transfer 1 bitcoin to myself at an untraceable wallet address.

This was obviously legit.  I recognized the email address, and the activities depicted were consistent with my immoral behavior, leaving me no choice.

Naturally I transferred the requested bitcoin to myself, and as promised, the incriminating evidence was deleted and I was not publicly shamed.

That proves it was legitimate.

Brilliant.

Apart from the email address it doesn't look like a scam email, maybe a member of staff is emailing using a personal address. It's too accurate to be a scam

I received this scam email today.  Please take note. I have make a transfer using my BBL after reading this email. the account is ok. Screenshot2025-11-04at11_59_40.png.bd7ed94ad8916af3abade6ba13fe3bfe.png

But seriously, the bank already has your personal information, your passport and your visa on file.  Why would they request additional documents sent to a personal email?

What would they need your house registration and lease?  That's not required for the FATCA or "know your customer" rules.

Sounds like a clerk setting up mule accounts for an agent.

Update. I went to the bank to update my residence info. I forgot ask to why there is sudden request for my residence. I did change condo 2 month ago. maybe there is some information sharing with the different government agency and flag up. She remind me any changes I need to inform them.

I received letter from Bankok Bank about two years ago. They cancelled my ATM card and stated I could not do any transfer online. It also stated, I had to go in person to withdraw money from my account. When I went in to the branch office. They said because of my direct deposit from SSA. I was told to open another account so I could use a ATM card & do money transfers. So I did. Then recently I went to use my ATM card and transfers were frozen. I went in and had to give copies of passport, address info and more. They unfroze it then. I think I will open another account with Kasikornbank.

I did a Google search on her unusual name, her personal email address, and her phone number, and nothing at all comes up for any of those three items. That’s unusual, about a ninety percent chance it’s a scam.

There’s also no phone number listed anywhere online for the Pattaya Beach Road Branch, located at the following address:

290/51 Beach Rd, Pattaya City, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri 20150

The simplest thing to do would be to call the Bangkok Bank main customer service line during normal business hours and ask for the phone number of that branch. Then you can call that branch directly to check whether that woman works there or not.

The only Bangkok Bank branch number listed on Beach Road is for the branch in Central Festival: 038-043-161. This is phone number is different from the one provided in the email, but you could call this branch instead and ask if she works there. And if she doesn't, then ask them for the phone number of the other branch on Beach Road and then call there and check too.

I'll bet she doesn't exist.

Thanks, that helps. I had done a search on Google maps for Bangkok Bank Branch branches on Beach Road. And the one at 290/51 Beach Rd, Pattaya City, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri 20150 is the only one that came up.

I haven't read through this whole thread, but has anyone called that branch there yet to find out if the woman works there?

With Bangkok Bank's mobile app you can check your current "Registered address" (and "Mailing address) on record: Settings, Profile, Personal information (KYC), where you can find BOTH Registered address, and Mailing address.

You cannot edit these - you can edit your email and phone number (I think) - for the addresses, you need to update those in person.

The OP's email probably would have gone into my Spam folder, where it would be deleted manually. If not, I would not open it, and I would delete it.

Using a personal email for customer communications, especially at a financial institution, appears to be questionable behavior. Requesting sensitive documents be sent by return email, to a personal email address, should raise all sorts of alarms at BBL.

All emails I receive from BBL have the domain bangkokbank.com.

That was a good one. I'm sure she and other staff laughed about it again afterwards too.

No scam!  The fact is that about a moth ago Bangkok Bank stopped all foregniers account without telling it before. I who was a customer at the bank went to an ATM on the Friday evening to take out 5000 Baht from my account and get the message, " You have not enough money on your account". I looked at my Bangkok Bank App and it tell that I had more than 40 000 baht at the account. I went to another ATM and tried to get 5000 Baht, and get the same answer. I went in to a 7/11 and tried to buy some food for less than 300 Baht, same answer. On the Monday after I went to Bangkok Bank on Klang, it was filled with foreigners. I had to wait about five hours before it was my time.

I told the clerk that it is something wrong with my ATM-card I could not use ATM. It is no problem wit your ATM-card she said, but we need you to come here with a new copy of your hosebook or Certifikate of Recidence. Come back with that tomorrow and we open your account again.

I could not I said, my landlord is in Italy and not come back until November 17. Ok, then you could not get you money before that she said I need the documents. You are wrong I said, you will give me my money within 5 minutes, I close my account. I did and get my money.

The story is not over with that. My landlord succeed to send me athe documents for get a "Certificate of living" and I went to immigration and asked for one. What for she asked. opening a bank account I answered. What bank she asked, anyone except Bangkok bank I answered. Ok, What about the "yellow" bank she asked. Ok, it would be fine.

I went to the "yellow" bank and when it was time for me I showed my papers  and said, I want to open a bank account. Ok she said and took copies of my documents. I call you whenit is ready, she finished . This was on a Monday. When Friday comes and she still not have called, I went to the bank and said, hey you have not called me. I recognice you she said, took up my documents, looked at her calender and said., It will be finished about 1 month from now, I call you then.

On my way back home I went in to Kasikorn Bank and said, I just want to ask how long it will take to open a bank account?   If your papers are ok, about 15 - 20 minutes. I went back the day after and it worked just as they had said, less than 20 minutes.

Never....never trust such emails, no matter how genuine they may look.

In such situations, always...always call up the bank or the merchant or whoever by phone to get confirmation. Check that the number you are using to call is the proper one.

What a sad, cop out reply. I know all the signs to look out for in a Scam email. This shows many of them which I have listed in a previous reply.

And yet it wasn't a scam email despite exhibiting "many" of "all" the signs you claim to know.

What's your point?

That's not a fact at all. I'm a foreigner, and they didn't "stop" my account about a month ago (or ever).

Yes, I called last week and a girl told me that Gantida Ghandi DID work there, but was using her own personal email address. What a way to run a Bank!

Agreed. On the whole, Bangkok Bank has not given me any problems in the 20 odd years I have been with them. App & Online work as they should.

See SingaPorn answer above your reply.

My point is that if you do not recognise an email address, or message, especially supposedly coming from your/ a bank, do not reply or open any attachments, basic Internet safety.

I don't think they ask for any documents to be sent by email 🤨🤔

perhaps they just ask you to show up at the branch, if they need any documents.

The email looked to me from a Bangkok Bank employee using a personal email address trying to get across that documents need to be provided to prevent the account from being frozen /to unfreeze and that's exactly what it what. We are in Thailand where professionalism is lacking, plus things get lost in translation. Also the email was too specific to be a scam, everybody knows of the current issues of accounts being frozen, except some people on here it seems. Of course shouldn't reply by email or even call, he should have visited the branch (scam very unlikely to mention a specific branch) and that's exactly what the op did.

So all the old fellas who shouted scam scam bin it should reflect

I know this is Thailand where things are not done as they should be done. But for Bangkok Bank to allow some girl to use her own name, AND another email address is unforgiveable. Typical signs of a scam.

If you had received a similar email, would you have opened or replied to it. Maybe YOU should reflect.

Was there any outcome? Did you send the info, which they already have, but requested it again.

Good idea SS. Take it on your phone show it to the Manager, and if it is from one of his staff, a bo11ocking is due. If it is not from one of his staff, the bank's Security (555)  branch need telling.

I wouldn't be showing the manager, I'd ask for the person in the email, you cause a fuss next time they won't bother trying to help and instead freeze your account
