Fish n' Chips in Pattaya ?

I had fish and chips from Sharples Jomtien. It was inedible. The chips were both under cooked and burnt (hard in the middle but very dark on the outside). They were also very sweet - I think it was a 'bad' batch of potatoes. The fish was terrible too. The batter was a very yellow colour. Seemed like they had used cornmeal in the batter and it really wasn't pleasant.

Enjoyed very much the fish and chips at Wombat and Kiwi bar Jomtien beach road. Went for the large and had to pass some over to the Mrs plate. She enjoyed it also.

I remember being impressed with Sharples when they opened in Tree Town........................more recent stories are less favourable.

Wombat & Kiwi are always consistent with decent quality food.

Okay..can you say if I order fish and chips at Wombat that I'll have the choice of cod/haddock?

Pretty sure it was Tilapia fillet or similar when I ate there. Certainly not cod or haddock and no mention of either on menu, just 'fish'.

You would be hard pushed to get cod or haddock meal for 199 baht. It was tasty though regardless.

Thanks for your replies guys - We ended up going to "Moggy's  bar"

Was ok, but nothing to write home about i'd give it 5.5/10 at best (the "butter" on the bread and butter was appalling) ..

As i was leaving, i glanced back and saw their banner claiming "Best Fish n Chips in Pattaya" ...

There is a Thai restaurant in Phuket town they mostly do noodles and they have steak on the menu, They do Fish and Chips, not something Thais eat, I asked them is that in Batter, coz most places do in in bread crumbs I ordered it, it wasnt the best batter but they gave me loads, and it only cost 185 Baht, Im not complaining,  I'll see if my wife has a photo of it,

I had this at Robin Hood a little while ago.  Everything was very good except in total rather too much.  But better too much than too little.

499 Baht for fish and chips at RHT.

That's retarded.

You'd pay that in the States / Canada for a much superior meal.

...But do they put mushy peas?

Most fish n chippies in England are run by Polacks and they turn out decent product in my experience.

Last time I was in Pattaya (quite a while ago), I had decent fish & chips in the Beer Garden in Walking Street.

Also chippie in Soi New Plaza (Frydays?) used to be pretty good and that was a long time ago as well. I think a guy called Liam owned it.

Sounds about right,  checked my 2 local pubs back there and one is at £13.89 (grotty Greene King) the other £18.00 (nice country Freehouse).  Neither would be better than the RHT, besides the beer of course!

Was at Sharples on New Plaza last month, Cod and chips was very good, bottle beers 50bt every day.

No wasn't the only one in there, all tables taken, no idea about the golden ferret as I came in via Buakhao.

Missed a better place by 50 ft, further down the Soi, the Golden Ferret, excellent choice of Cod, Haddock or Dory fish and chips.

I'm not too fussed either way, but yes, you have a choice of garden or mushy peas.

I don't think a guy coming down for fish 'n chips from the deep province, as a treat, has to worry about clogged arteries. Indigestion would be more my concern. Nice to eat them, but maybe pay a price later on.

Nah, P&W wasn't one of the bars I frequented.
