Alcohol hours contradicting news

Featured Replies

News not long ago about proposed changes to alcohol sales hours being relaxed and proposed abolishing the curfew hours on sales.

Now I read this about a further tightening of the law with stiffer fines.

"First published in the Royal Gazette on September 8, the act means alcohol can not be consumed outside of the hours between 11am-2pm and 5pm-12am."

Well the above  is obviously silly as no one can enforce "consumption" times  what it is referring to is the long existing (and often completely ignored) sales times  11am-2pm and 5pm-12am  nothing new at all.

Except the rules have changed apparently putting the onus on the drinkers/customers it would appear -

As to enforcement......as with everything here that is a whole different story

I expect there will soon be a clarification/flip flop on this insane interpretation...hope they do it before it harms the reputation of Thailand in the eyes of tourists.

I agree as if they try to enforce it there will be a right brouhaha

I don't think it is a huge deal I thinkthe Thais are more confused.

You can still buy in Khao san and NANA.

Patpong is a hard no

The reason is simple they are in the entertainment zones and are restaurants not bars.

Many of the nars I think like this plan because it means they do not have to pay as many staff.

Read the headline of today's publication.

Now they're eliminating the 2-5 rule.

Tune in tomorrow for another flip flop.

All this smells of improvisation...

15 days consultation period.

Plenty of time for flip flops 😊

you missed the very first topic on todays news letter ?

The National Alcohol Policy Committee has decided to lift the long-standing ban on alcohol sales from 2pm to 5pm, citing the need to boost spending during festive seasons. The new regulation will take effect 15 days after public consultation, without requiring cabinet approval. The panel has yet to decide on extending drinking hours at entertainment venues.
