Four foreign tourists were rescued late last night when their speedboat became stranded on rocks near Maiton Island, Phuket. The rescue operation was executed by officers from the Third Naval Area Command and the Maritime Enforcement Coordination Centre Region 3 following a distress call due to their boat being hit by waves.

The situation was challenging due to strong waves and rough seas. Additional support from the Navy’s Maritime Security Unit in Phuket was necessary, and rescuers used inflatable boats and life-saving equipment. The team arrived on the scene at 10:55 pm and successfully extracted all tourists.

The rough conditions, compounded by darkness, made the mission difficult. Reports suggest the tourists ignored warnings about strong winds and waves. Some Thai netizens expressed relief at the safe rescue, while others criticized the tourists for endangering themselves and questioned the legality of their trip.

Thai authorities and citizens have raised concerns about whether such trips are being conducted without proper guidance or legal compliance. Meanwhile, praise was extended to the rescue teams for their diligent efforts and efficiency in executing the mission under adverse conditions.

On the same day, another boat accident occurred in Krabi, involving two Indian tourists and two Thai nationals. They were rescued when their longtail boat capsized near Koh Poda in Ao Nang subdistrict. This incident has heightened calls for stricter adherence to safety protocols in tourist maritime activities.

Looking ahead, there may be increased emphasis on enforcing maritime safety regulations and possibly reviewing protocols for tourist vessels. Authorities may also investigate to ensure all involved tours and boats comply with legal standards.

Key Takeaways

  • Four foreign tourists safely rescued from a stranded speedboat near Maiton Island.
  • Rescuers faced adverse conditions, with implications for tour safety protocols.
  • Similar incidents highlight potential need for stricter maritime safety enforcement.

Looks like they rented the boat.

But the story is not really clear on that.

Then whoever rented the boat out should not have done IF that was the case..

Agreed, but that does change liability.
