"Rigged" ATMs.

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

One of my biggest paranoia is about "rigged" ATMs: I usually use the ones I consider "safe," i.e., those inside shopping malls. But when that's not possible, I use the ones outside a bank, being very careful to cover the keypad while entering my PIN and wiping it down with a cloth (in my sick mind, I think someone might be able to trace my fingerprints). Is my paranoia/fear justified, or should I seek treatment from a reputable professional? 🤪😁

Use cardless withdrawal on the app then you don't need to worry

Using some caution and common sense is a good thing. I don't use ATM's located on the street either. Paranoia is going a bit too far.

I try and only use ATM's outside my bank (Kasikorn - any branch) whilst the branch is open. I normally take out a fair amount each time. This is predominantly in case my card gets swallowed for whatever reason. At least then I can go in the branch to retrieve or resolve the situation if there is a problem.

I once had a card swallowed by a non Kasikorn outside a 7/11. Inside they were not able to help which I fully understand. Had to contact the bank to cancel the card then visit a branch to obtain a new one.

Not sure what "rigged" means? Or "safe"?

Maybe with a "Skimmer" installed?

Most banks here offer contactless ATM withdrawals via the mobile app.

Are these Dominion ATM's?........don't trust them.....they are definitely rigged......I have the evidence.

For others, as not sure how much I believe this OP at all.

Recommend people only use ATM attached to, or inside a bank, even better, and only during banking hours, in case card gets eaten, you can retrieve it.

Definitely don't use any stand alone ATM anywhere, unless absolutely necessary.

As described already...

Hardly use my cards.

Cardless with banking app and no need to get card out and enter PIN on the ATM.

Methods vary, might include entering telephone number.

Best and smooth with Kasikorn.

Carrying wipes to the clean the key pad post transaction is next level paranoia.

For your own sanity I think it best you do see a medical professional.

    • At the K PLUS app :
      • Go to the K PLUS app and select the “Transactions” menu.
      • Enter your password to log in.
      • Select “Withdraw” from the home screen.
      • Select the amount you wish to withdraw and press “Next” or “Confirm”.
      • Check your withdrawal details and click “Next” or “Confirm”.
    • At K-ATM :
      • On the K-ATM screen, select the “Cardless Withdrawal” menu.
      • Select “K PLUS”
      • The screen will display a QR Code.
      • Return to the K PLUS app and press “Scan QR” to scan the QR Code at the ATM.

  1. Sounds far too complicated for me. Plus it has to be a KBank ATM

I use Western Union or Money Gram that my bank offers for no fees.  Just send the money to my self.  It is cheaper than ATM fees, better rates, takes some time at the bank to get the money but take out a large sum, it is worth it.

Yes, seek help immediately or find a padded cell to live out the rest of your days.

What is this thread even about. 🙄 In case of ATM skimming scam bank will just refund you.

If an ATM swallows your Thai bank card, you can kiss it goodbye EXCEPT if it is a main branch of your bank (not in a shopping mall), in which case they can retrieve it. It doesn't have to be your branch. I've had to get new cards for K-Bank many times over the years. You don't actually pay for a new card, as they credit the remaining yearly fee towards a new one. This is the bank policy of all banks.

Some people are going to suggest I'm too forgetful for leaving my card in ATMs and suggest I should use card-free withdrawal. It's a good idea, but I need a physical card to use deposit ATMs. That cannot be done except with a card.

It doesn't matter much where the ATM is located, but all ATMs outside busy stores are safe enough. Convenience is key. If I use an international card, then I only use ATMs at banks, as they will release it quickly with ID if they are swallowed.

These days, I do most of my purchases electronically, so I don't carry more than 1000 baht of cash.

Kasikorn.  You can use QR code to deposit at their CDM machines.  Maybe other banks don't have this possibility (yet).

I only go to the bank every 3 months, when it comes to taking money out, so take enough to hold me over.  Don't have a BBL ATM, since USA Soc Sec DD account.

Do pop over occasionally to the ATM, all of 7 mins away, as my company pension goes into USA account, which I think I'll will stop doing that, as that earns 5% there.

Think after next week or so, we're done saving Soc Sec, as buying last lot available on the soi.   Best use of THB savings vs sitting idle, earning all of that 1.5%.

Have to bring myself around to upgrading our O&A spending, though hard for our thrifty butts  :coffee1:

Maybe the Auto Expo will help solve that problem  :cheesy:
