A man was killed after being struck by a freight train in Chumphon province on the evening of 6 November. The incident occurred along the railway line between Moo 6, Tak Daet subdistrict, and Moo 7, Thung Kha subdistrict, about one kilometre from the Nong Mook railway crossing. Police, rescue workers and a hospital doctor were called to the scene after reports of a fatal collision involving a southbound train from Bangkok to Sungai Kolok.

Officers from the Chumphon Khet Udomsak Hospital and the Chumphon Kusonsongkroh Rescue Foundation reached the site on foot due to its remote location. They discovered the dismembered remains of a man, believed to be middle-aged, scattered along the tracks. The victim was wearing a checkered shirt and black sports shorts. Two cloth bags were found nearby, containing several items of clothing and a bottle of body powder labelled in Burmese, along with a neatly placed pair of black sandals. No identification documents were found.

Police investigators, led by Pol Lt Col Suriya Paenkerd of Mueang Chumphon Police Station, said initial evidence suggests the man was likely a foreign national, possibly from Myanmar, as he had been heard speaking Thai with a Burmese accent earlier in the evening. Local witnesses reported seeing him walking along the tracks near the Nong Mook crossing earlier. Later, he was struck by freight train No. 985, travelling from Bangkok to Sungai Kolok, resulting in the severe trauma injuries and the scattering of body parts along the line.

While suicide has not been ruled out, investigators are also considering the possibility of an accidental death. The man’s remains were taken to the Chumphon Foundation for further examination and storage while efforts continue to confirm his identity. Police are gathering witness statements and forensic evidence as the investigation continues.
