Calls for SpaceX to assist with rescue of 3 Chinese Astronauts

Featured Replies

My general understanding is recently some space debris struck the return capsule that 3 Chinese Astronauts would use to return to Earth.

Should Musk and Space X assist with using a SpaceX Crew Dragon Capsule like they did to rescue some Astronauts stuck on the International Space Station?

My opinion is Yes.

Besides just being the right thing to do I believe it would help repair relations with the Chinese.  It would show despite our differences we will continue to communicate and work through our problems to help each other if situations like this occur.

It would show the Chinese people that America will step up and help when needed or called upon.

Yes.

There is no emergency and the Taikonauts do not need rescuing! They have a 'spare' return vehicle at the Chinese space station that could be used if there was a real emergency.

Minute pieces of space junk often hit satellites.  The ISS has quite a few holes, including one that seemed to be created from inside the ISS!

I thought the ISS was kinda of on its last legs, no? Needs to be repalced?

Correct.  It's due to be retired in a year or 2 from now. The astronauts will leave and the ISS will be positioned to re-enter (and hopefully all burn up) over the Pacific Ocean, but get your helmet on if you live on a Pacific island!
