REMS (“Radio‑frequency Echographic Multi‑Spectrometry”) avail?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Maybe I get lucky and can avoid contacting all the hospitals etc here in BKK individually by asking our members here on the site. Maybe somebody already knows the answer.

As someone with osteoporosis I am used to having DXA scans. But I would be interested to get an REMS test, since I read that "REMS also assesses bone quality and provides a fragility score, offering a more comprehensive evaluation than DXA which mainly measures bone mineral density (BMD)". The last time I asked at BNH they only offered the DXA scan and my Endocrinologist said she wasn´t aware of any hospital offering REMS. When checking various websites they always mention DXA but not specifically REMS, so chances are that this technology is not yet available in Thailand.

Or does anyone know of a place offering it in BKK? If so, I would love to hear from you.

Cheers

DUS

I am interested in bone scan as well. Google seemed to confirm what your doctor said that there's no REMS testing available in Bkk. So I did a search in Singapore which likely would get cutting edge tech first in this part of the world. Nada nil.

Looks like REMS has just made it out of research labs and it'll be a while before hospitals here acquire it.

Sorry, I can't help to find a hospital in BKK because I'm based in CM.

However, please read this here:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34786596/

There are not too many reasons to use REMS, unless there are reasons for it. DXA is accurate and reliable.
