A German man wanted for a violent robbery in his home country has been arrested on Koh Phangan after an incident that began as a minor traffic violation. The arrest followed a report to the Tourist Police hotline about a foreigner behaving aggressively while riding a loud motorbike around a residential area on the island. The suspect, identified as Mr. Sugru Yusaf Onganer, 22, was taken into custody at a coin-operated car wash after a brief confrontation with officers.

The incident occurred on 10 November 2025, when a local resident alerted authorities via hotline 1155 about a man riding a grey Yamaha T-MAX motorcycle with no licence plate and a loud exhaust. Police Lieutenant Colonel Winich Boonchit, from the Koh Phangan Tourist Police, coordinated the response with local officials, immigration officers and the Koh Phangan Police Station. When confronted, Onganer was reportedly uncooperative, shouting at officers and threatening them, claiming to have powerful connections.

During a search, police found a brass knuckle knife in his shoulder bag. Onganer was immediately detained and taken for questioning. Immigration checks revealed he was the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant in Germany for a serious armed robbery and assault case that left the victim injured. According to police, the suspect later admitted he had fled Germany after committing the offence and had been hiding on Koh Phangan for several months.

Authorities charged him with reckless driving and carrying a weapon in public, while also coordinating with German law enforcement for extradition procedures. The case, initially treated as a routine motor traffic offence, has now escalated into an international criminal matter involving both Thai and German authorities.

Police confirmed that Onganer will be held in custody on Koh Phangan while formal communication with German prosecutors is underway. The case highlights continued cooperation between Tourist Police and international law enforcement networks to track and apprehend foreign fugitives using the country as a refuge.

Deport him back "home" to Germany immediately, I'm sure they want him back.

They are having a lot of problems on that island with the Middle Easterners lately.

His name sounds like Turkish, doesn't it?

Note to self: when hiding, don’t ride around on a motorbike loud enough to prompt complaints to the police.

As an aside, what on earth is happening on Koh Phangan? The last few days have seen headline after headline of crooks getting caught. Did the police there suddenly wake up?

Onganer seems Turkish.

But I have doubts about the rest of the spelling. Maybe another lost in reporting.

Yusaf -> Yusuf?

Sugru is a mystery as a name to Google.

If he is of Turkish origin he might be a 2nd or 3rd generation immigrant. Not the typical 2015+ immigrant been stuffed a German passport into his pocket.

Please show us your powerful connections.

What a complete moron. This island have become a really bad place.

These scooters should be banned anyway; even with a normal exhaust, they are loud and, in the wrong hands, very dangerous!

Anyway; this <deleted> have not powerful connections in Thailand.....except perhaps with prison guards.:clap2:

No ! Syria, Lebanon !

I always wonder how the mind of a numbnuts like that works. Wanted in Germany for a robbery, and practically begging the police here to arrest him. And then be deported back to Germany, where he goes straight to prison. Not the shiniest coin in the fountain, that’s for sure.

There is a video about him and his bike being checked.

At some point he states that he has two passports.

Surprise, surprise.

During the conversation he gives the bootlicker how he loves Thailand and respects Thai people bla bla

From my experience of having lived on Samui previously for a few years the police in BKK would periodically send a new team down to Surat Thani (and consequently) Samui and Koh Phangan. This was when either islands were attracting bad press and the incumbent BIB's were viewed as not doing their jobs, or were being 'incentivised' to not do their job. Perhaps this is why there is suddenly a flurry of activity on Koh Phangan.

Don't know whether the 'clean brush' ever reached Koh Tao - perhaps even the BKK police fear to tread there.

What do you expect? Germany is full of Turks and Moroccans, and so are Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, and France. Shall I go on?

Maybe Syrian... The Germans invited a million of them to their country ten years ago and handed passports out to them like hotcakes.

I wonder how so many fugitives get out of their country and then gain entry into Thailand, and how they get on airplanes.  It would be interesting to know the details of the cases, did they have their home country passports confiscated by the courts, assuming they were ever in custody?  even if not in custody, surely the law enforcement agencies could get with their state departments and invalidate their passports?  Did they get false passports that were good enough to travel on one or more airlines?  Did they even go through Thai Immigration checkpoint at some crossing or entry point?

Still goes on and it's nothing more than those in bkk getting a free weeks holiday staying in a nice hotel.

Ha ha.  Reminds me of when I first joined the US Air Force.  I moved from Rhode Island all the way to Vandenberg Air Force Base on the California Central Coast, city of Lompoc.  I had very few things shipped as i was just out of college. One of the things I had shipped was a small basic simple outdoor charcoal grill.  Three legs, the bowl for the charcoal and the grill.   After they were delivered I got a phone call from some agricultural office down in Santa Barbara and he said he had to come up and inspect the grill because it had been outside in Rhode Island and he was checking for pests, gypsy moths or whatever.  I assured him the grill was clean and spotless as I had washed it before shipping and I was looking at it as we spoke.  Nope, buy made the over one hour drive up the coast, fondled the grill, then left.  Obviously getting a whole day out of the office.  It is ridiculous because I drove my car from Rhode Island and that had been outside for ten years!  One can only imagine how many eggs, and other stuff might be in that 1968 Torino
