Democratic Florida Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick accused of stealing $5M in FEMA funds

"Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) was hit with a federal indictment Wednesday, accusing her of stealing $5 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds to support her 2021 congressional campaign.

Cherfilus-McCormick, who has been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee since December 2023, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Miami and faces up to 53 years in prison if convicted".

Serious money fraud accusations., if found guilty she won't be a Dem Congresswoman  any longer.

An investigation that took almost two years sounds typical of the HEC.

The real test of their efficiency will be the case against her.

If past performance is any indicator, she will walk free on some ridiculous technicality.

That might happen in DC where Ham Sandwich indictments by grand juries fail because of its  90 % dem voter base.  But this is in Florida . I hope she has good lawyers and deep pockets.

Dems are almost immune from prosecution in histories past.

The Biden Administration tried and got convicted Democratic Senator Robert Menendez. Donald Trump has been pardoning corrupt Republican politicians and their relatives. Why would the Justice dept even bother to investigate Rebublican politicians as long as Trump is able to pardon them?

Sort of like what is happening with James Comey's indictment by the Trump administration and his handpicked prosecutor Lindsey Halligan. It is falling apart as we type.

Don't P off Bondi she is the ATTY of USA and former Atty general of FLorida.

"Using disaster relief funds for self-enrichment is a particularly selfish, cynical crime," Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement. "No one is above the law, least of all powerful people who rob taxpayers for personal gain. We will follow the facts in this case and deliver justice."

This was going on during the Biden Admin . I guess no reasonable  prosecutors could be found than.

"Prosecutors alleged that the defendants routed the funds through multiple accounts to disguise their source and that a significant portion of the misappropriated funds were used as candidate contributions to Cherfilus-McCormick’s 2021 congressional campaign or for their personal benefit".

It works both ways because money and blackmail have corrupted the whole system.

Don't P off Bondi unless you have a spare $25,000 to bung her not to prosecute you.

If she is found guilty, the book should be thrown at her..........she will then need to declare undying love for Trump and ask for a pardon...or divvi up some of the money.

She stole 5 M , maybe a lot less than some of the people Donald

has been pardoning , but he could , Oh no she's a Democratic

he will instruct the DoJ to lock her up for life....

She and her brother had a healthcare Company.

"Authorities said Cherfilus-McCormick worked with a man named Nadege Leblanc to create a network of straw donors.

Together, they funneled money from the FEMA-funded contract to friends and relatives, who then donated to Cherfilus-McCormick’s campaign as if using their own funds, according to detectives".
