Coffee cup tested positive for lead

Featured Replies

Hi all, I just received a coffee maker from Lazada. The maker seems fine, but beware of the cup they may send you along with it.

I brought lead testing swabs from the US, and I have tested a few things, which were ok. Got the maker shipped from China, tested the cup and it was a heavy positive.

So just beware of the shiny white cups you may receive for free, it might have lead in it, any cup really.

Lazada had nothing to do with this cup, it was in the box from a Chinese manufacturer, can't do nothing about the origin really. The maker was negative for lead though.

FYI

Studies and tests show lead in 30–50% of tested ceramics from regions like China or Hong Kong, often below strict U.S./EU limits but still detectable. For example, a 2024 Hong Kong Consumer Council test found 43% of ceramic bowls and cups released some lead or cadmium.

So you are saying we basically have to throw away all our cups, by any chance you just opened a store? LOL. If this happens in China to get the brighter shinier finish it for sure happens maybe even worse in countries that are barely tested, such as locally produced here.

Met this guys in Laos once that worked for the World bank and WHO etc, they said the last I want to eat is cucumbers and water melons due to pesticide levels and the high level of water in them. I'd guess we end up living in fear constantly if we tested all.
