I have tried it with the Opera free VPN, doesn't work. Is it possble for me to get my UK bank to send funds to my thai bank?

Opera does not have a UK server.

My Barclays, and maybe Nationwide app, have virtual card readers built in.

As for UK bank sending to Thai bank, the obvious one is WISE, or Revolut.

All UK banks will be able to do SWIFT transfers, but that's more expensive and takes 4 or 5 days, at a lousy exchange rate.

But if the UK want to send you an OTP, it must be to a UK number, which receives the messages no problem as long as that phone is switched on.

So can mine. They work wherever I have internet, regardless of country (but they need a VPN for any actual transactions if using Starlink). However, they were all installed and initialised when I was in the UK, buying a new phone just after Covid. The Bangkok Bank setup was done here in Thailand. The US banking apps set up while in the UK required 2FA authentication via my US mobile number.
