A manhunt is underway in Phuket after a drug suspect, identified as 37-year-old Ex Chanaphai from Surat Thani, escaped police custody while handcuffed. The incident unfolded late Friday night, November 21, as Chanaphai was being transferred by Thalang district officers to Wichit Police Station. His escape in the dark has prompted a comprehensive search and review of CCTV footage throughout the area.

Chanaphai was initially arrested around 1.17am on Friday at a Wichit residential building. During the raid, officers seized 12 methamphetamine pills, 0.59 grams of crystal meth, related drug paraphernalia, a mobile phone, and a Honda Wave motorbike. However, amid the suspect's transfer to the police station, he managed to push past his escorts and flee, raising questions about how he eluded multiple officers.

The delay in reporting the escape has stirred concern, with the incident only officially logged over 16 hours later at 5.01pm on Saturday, November 22. Deputy Thalang District Chief Chaiporn Yangchin filed the escape complaint, and Wichit Police have registered the case as Criminal Case No. 602/2568. An arrest warrant is being processed as authorities intensify their search efforts.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wutthiwat Liangboonjinda, Deputy Chief of Wichit Police, stated that extensive efforts are underway to track Chanaphai using CCTV coverage. The police have urged the public to report any sightings or information, emphasizing the importance of civilian assistance in locating the fugitive.

Looking forward, police are continuing to study CCTV footage and have advised community members in and around Wichit to remain cautious and vigilant. Authorities hope that swift civilian action combined with their investigative efforts will lead to the apprehension of Chanaphai. The situation remains critical as the search for the escaped suspect presses on, reported The Thaiger.
