Vietjet Thailand has welcomed its first Boeing 737-8 at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport, a significant step in its ambitious US$32 billion fleet expansion across Asia. This delivery, on November 22, marks the first of 50 Boeing 737-8s planned for Vietjet Thailand, with the fleet set to grow through 2031. The aircraft addition aims to enhance operational efficiency and support the airline's sustainable development goals.

This move stems from an order initially placed by Vietjet in 2018, later reassigned to Vietjet Thailand to align with market needs. The newly acquired aircraft boasts advanced fuel efficiency, compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel, promising a 15-20% reduction in carbon emissions compared to older models. This aligns with Vietjet's Fly Green initiative, demonstrating a commitment to environmentally friendly operations and sustainable industry growth.

With an expanded fleet, Vietjet Thailand is poised to meet increased passenger demand and broaden its route network across Asia. Upcoming direct routes include destinations like Tokyo (Narita), Osaka, and Cam Ranh, anticipating stronger regional connectivity. While Vietjet Thailand focuses solely on Boeing 737s, the parent airline in Vietnam will maintain its Airbus fleet, yet they also made recent changes by integrating a Boeing 737-8 for Vietnam-based high-demand routes.

The strategy reflects a shift in Vietjet’s operational approach, grappling with diverse market needs and demands in both Thai and Vietnamese sectors. By diversifying aircraft types, Vietjet aims to tailor its offers more effectively to varied regional markets, highlighting an adaptive and forward-focused business model, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Vietjet Thailand begins its fleet expansion with the first of 50 Boeing 737-8s.
  • The new aircraft supports Vietjet's Fly Green initiative by reducing emissions.
  • New routes will expand regional connectivity to major Asian destinations.

FYI, the Boeing 737-8 is identical to the 737 Max. Boeing just changed the name to make it sound more safe.

There is no such thing as a Boeing 737-8. I think that they mean a Boeing 737 MAX 8, but why not disclose, that it is in fact a 737 MAX?
