A Russian man who went missing during a birthday fishing trip off Pattaya was found dead two days later, bringing a tragic end to what began as a celebratory outing. The discovery was made at 11.00 on 26 November 2025, when search teams located the body of 61-year-old Russian national Mr Shcherbakov Andrey floating face down in the sea near Koh Larn. His body was recovered approximately six nautical miles from the island, close to the area of Rang Kwien Island, before being transported to the mainland at Jomtien Beach.

The incident began on the evening of 24 November 2025, when a group of four Russian tourists chartered a boat for a fishing trip near Hat Nuan on Koh Larn to celebrate a friend’s birthday. During the outing, Mr Andrey reportedly fell from the vessel and disappeared in full view of his friends, prompting them to immediately alert authorities. Despite overnight search efforts, there was no sign of the missing man and the case escalated into a multi-agency operation over the following two days.

Search units from the Sriracha Marine Police, Koh Larn Marine Rescue and Sawang Boriboon Rescue in Pattaya combined their resources to expand the search across the surrounding waters. When the body was found, Mr Andrey was dressed only in black shorts, with no visible signs of assault. According to police, dry blood was seen from his nose, which investigators believe may have resulted from being submerged in water for an extended period.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Pakorn Prakobnunt, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police (Khong Dong Tan branch), examined the body and confirmed that no external injuries were present. He stated that the body would be sent for a detailed autopsy to determine the precise cause of death. Initial assessments suggest drowning after falling from the boat, but officials emphasised that conclusions would only be drawn after forensic results are complete.

The boat’s skipper, Mr Toi, aged 61, said the group had previously chartered his boat twice, making this their third trip. He explained that the group had been socialising in a manner similar to a birthday celebration before spreading out to fish in separate areas of the vessel. He recalled being alerted when one of the group ran to him saying, “A friend has fallen and disappeared from the boat,” leading him to launch a search and notify authorities before learning of the fatal outcome two days later.

Police have indicated that the fall was likely accidental. Investigators are awaiting autopsy findings before issuing a final report on the death. Further inquiries will continue as authorities confirm the sequence of events and liaise with relevant parties.

Have you ever drank with Russians? I'll never do it again. They take intoxication to a whole new level.

Thailand has completely opened up the nation to the Russian Bratva, and the Chinese Triads, so when we see what appears to be a suspicious death like this one, one always has to take into account the possibility that it was a mob related hit.

Probably he fell into the sea heavily intoxicated and drowned. Russians like drinking until they pass out.

I have seen it irl 🤷‍♂️

Ive tried to keep up with them.  The problem is that most become violent after a certain level of intoxication is reached. There's a saying that comes out and you duck when you hear it and get out of there before it gets ugly.

Some of these comments show how fixated on American propaganda a number of members are. The beauty of Asia is that the US and Britain aren't even on the periphery of the collective consciousness here, much less the center of the universe.

I gave up trying to keep up with them very soon. It's impossible for me at least, I have seen both men and women drink excessively and pass out. Although some do behave aggressively unfortunately 🤷‍♂️

Oh yes, because killers want to stick around after the event and be identifiable.  Get real.

Russian hits, whether crime or government related typically have difficult to identify perpetrators.

How about waiting for an autopsy? The man may have had a heart attack or been very drunk when he fell over.

This time, I agree with you to wait for the autopsy

Drunk? Hit his head and got knocked out as he went overboard?  Can't swim at all?  Seems odd he sank out of sight so quickly.  I know my friends would have jumped overboard immediately to try and help

How do you help someone who has disappeared from sight in frigid water?

They would have had to have seen or heard you within a few seconds of your  falling overboard. The report says the fishers were dispersed and each was in a different part of the boat. If  fishing, they would have been focused on their own lines and not been  looking at each other. It doesn't take long for a person to sink. Bodies only pop up once the gases form in the gut causing the body to float.

You do understand that the pictures show one of the rescue RIB?

Low hull to aid to aid recovery of casualties or victims onto the vessel. Pulling a dead weight bloated, decomposing body out of the water is never going to be easy.

Life jackets , who needs life jackets
