Air Pollution Worsens in Bangkok, Urgent Public Advisory Issued

Featured Replies

Where I live (Nonthaburi) people start burning trash, especially plastics as soon as it becomes windy. Their burning spot won't be spotted by strong wind.

And if you were a farmer here and had little assistance from the top to use other means of disposing the waist other than burning   and also little money to improve   your private situation to mechanise of use modern  methods of disposing or composting   what would you do   Probably the same ,

easy to judge  maybe you are an expert  so suggest you go to the  leaders here and explain  would be good for all  .

fines  wont help  trying to confiscate land   think would take years and years to finalise

here is 2 months of bla bla then forgotten  .

farmer mentality  don't burn during the day as you see the smoke ,burn at night they don't see but they forget the red glow of fire  ,

this practise is all over  Asia slash burn   words from this blog Will highlight it but wont change anything  ,

when we all in 2050  will still be the same

shouldn't be to hard on Farmers as they produce food  and not supermarkets

instead of buying  or using funds here for useless things modernise the  farmers  help with irregation systems get the governments to clean waterways and new water management

also

I realize it's done everywhere including Australia but that doesn't mean it's right and I truly consider it to be a form of domestic terrorism against thy neighbor, when you consider the horrific health repercussions.

Oh my, certainly not good for Thailand's image (or tourism).

Hub of air pollution

Today Friday 28 November and recent days the skies have been clear and sunny  in the area of Ratchada and Lat Prao. Temperatures cool and a little crisp.  No sign of air pollution.  And looking out far over Bangkok 360 degrees  from 28th floor height at Ratchada/ Lat Prao the skies looked clean and clear with scattered white clouds today.    Conditions allll contrary to this news report.

The usual ploy to ban petrol cars and lead us to the scam of the electric car

1. Fine the farmers 5,000 baht for a first offense, and give them a stern warning, that burning is now prohibited, and the second fine will be very harsh.

2. For a second offense, fine the farmer 100,000 baht, and warn them that if the burning continues, their land will be confiscated.

3. On the 3rd offense, confiscate their land. Period. No questions. No legal proceeding or appeals on the part of the farmers. Allow others to come in and purchase the land at a fair price, with the caveat that sugar is prohibited as a crop to be grown on that land.

The news would travel faster than the toxic smoke, and farmers would change their ways overnight ...

The farmers would start burning each others' crops.

When solve the black smoke cars? when solve the big traffic jams that are already know for 50 years in Bangkok? When solve the dirty industry to get cleaner?? and where is the enforcing power, when do they start working???

You said, ".......solve the big traffic jams......"

Much of that is down to Thais being rubbish drivers.

Here in Phuket where I live in Kathu, Kathu, traffic would move much quicker and avoid all of the stop go stop go caused by traffic lights  everywhere if they were replaced by roundabouts as we have in the UK and other countries.

But saying that, it could make thinks worse as Thais do not seem to know the rules on the very few roundabouts which exist, it means making a choice of how to use them over traffic lights which tell them what to do.

There is a big roundabout with six entry and exit points on the main Phuket highway but they have been blocked off as people do not know how to used them, when it was in used a few years ago people just to stop and wonder who had the right of way thus causing a traffic jam.🤣

Flyovers/tunnels would also be a great solution but each tunnel seems to take year to build here.

Erm, most of the clothes worn in the West.

The Chineses are the world's best at producing electric cars.

MG petrol cars also owned by China.

To name a few others :

Major products from China include

a vast range of electronics, such as computers and integrated circuits, and machinery, including industrial machines and power-generating equipment.

Other significant products include furniture, textiles, toys, and plastics.

China is also a major exporter of vehicles, medical devices, and various chemicals.

The list is endless, that is why it will soon be the world's largest economy if it not already is.

But apart from that Nothing good ever comes from the People's Republic of China 🤣

Whenever I bought products made in China, they seemed to be of low quality (or outright 'bad' as for food), breaking easily, and not lasting long... (As for toys, reportedly, the Chinese seem to be very good at manufacturing hybrids of toys and chemicals.) 😂

You seem to be a big fan of the PRC; ever thought of moving there and becoming a member of the CCP? 😆

It is up to you if you wish to  choose cheap low quality products.

How many cars have you bought and tested for example from China?

By your logic you are saying MG cars are outright bad?

You seem to be a big fan of having no logic ; ever thought of moving to Alice in Wonderland ?

Some main problems are attempting to penalize and prevent farmers from burning crops, something that has been happening for decades.

I believe the government has attempted to educate some farmers on different techniques and equipment they could use.

Farm equipment is expensive compared to the potential profits and I believe it is hard to get a bank loan unless you have a larger farm that's been in business for many years.

I know they have Real Time Satellite Monitoring already but think it would be challenging to enforce as I'm not sure if they have property ownership details with boundaries from Satellite images

Only one solution re sugarcane burning...........all cane to be delivered to the processors with the leaves intact.....and the processors strip and mulch.

You will never stop the farmers from burning the leaves.

none of this is the core issue.

The core issue is regional burning.

I am very sure that traffic is a big polluter too.. if you see that smoke trucks fume black smoke it even it is fog, black fog, and not so many sugar cane burning around Bangkok. However Thai people burn a lot of rubbish as there is no enforcement by the rtp.

The burning need not be around Bangkok.  Geography and weather conditions at this time of year combine with the burning to trap pollutants.

No but it is strange that 20m years ago already we came by plane to Bangkok and above Bangkok there you could see a big brown cloud, not around Bangkok, so it would be typical that only above Bangkok the smoke keeps hanging while around there was at that time no problem..

This is the same  as last year and the year before and the year before that  !!!  simple fix !! ENFORCEMENT !!!
