A high-profile legal intervention has emerged after a 17-year-old first-year vocational student was charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a third-year student in Nakhon Ratchasima. The incident, which took place in front of a shop on Mittraphap Road beside an educational institution, resulted in the older student being shot in the chest and later dying in hospital. Lawyer Chokchai Lertsuwannakul announced on 26 November that he had secured bail for the younger student and would represent him, stating that the teenager admitted to the shooting but claimed it was an act of self-defence.

The student, referred to only as “Mr A,” had reportedly arranged to meet a group of senior students to “clear the air,” but was allegedly attacked when the older group arrived in larger numbers and began assaulting him. According to police, the younger student retrieved a gun during the attack, fired at the group and fled on a motorcycle before being arrested and charged murder. The case has drawn significant public attention after the lawyer claimed on social media that the shooting would not be a simple matter and suggested multiple individuals should ultimately be held responsible.

Chokchai alleged that the group of senior students had previously harmed several others, stating that some victims had stopped attending school due to assaults, threats involving weapons and serious injuries, including a case of a fractured eye socket. He criticised teachers for failing to question why students disappeared from classes and claimed that there had been no legal action against earlier alleged assaults. His post stated that “work on this case will not end here,” adding that at least 5 to 10 people might face accountability.

He further said he would submit complaints to the provincial police commander and the national police chief, seeking investigations into those who allegedly attacked his client and into past incidents involving other students. The lawyer also acknowledged the grief of the deceased student’s family and the financial burden faced by the defendant’s family, while noting that individuals involved in previous alleged violence remained “still at large.” Online reactions largely thanked the lawyer for supporting the younger student, while also calling for a fair legal process and proper investigation into past claims.

Daily News reported that the student reportedly told the lawyer that he believed he could eventually have been killed by the group, claiming he saw a knife being drawn before firing a shot to “open a way to escape” and insisting he did not intend to kill anyone. Police investigations and legal proceedings are expected to continue, with further scrutiny likely into both the shooting and the allegations of earlier violence.

Key Takeaways

• A first-year vocational student was charged with intentional murder after fatally shooting a senior student on 26 November in Nakhon Ratchasima.

• Lawyer Chokchai Lertsuwannakul claimed the shooting was self-defence and alleged past assaults by the senior group against multiple students.

• Further complaints and investigations are expected, with the lawyer stating that 5 to 10 people may ultimately be held accountable.

The question is only how he will defend that the guy was carrying a loaded gun.

i guess that would depend on where he retrieved the gun from. He could claim he pulled it from one of the students attacking him.

But if there is any other scenario, he would be charged with having a concealed weapon and discharging it at the least. Self defence can only save him from the murder charge.

So a max of ten years and only 8 years with good behavior, Thai justice strikes again..🙄

Perhaps you should consider that with the well documented rise in student violence across the country what would you have done in a given situation and a gun not necessarily your own but one that was easily to hand ?

Maybe you should read the post again before surmising on the outcome before the matter comes to court,  let justice prevail.

Ok, what has the rise in student violence to do with carrying a gun? That escalate violence, and something that the authorities must deal with. Not single student on their own. So you think he took the gun from one of the bullies, or that he just found it lying in the street for convenience? Must be nice to be so gullible.

When did say he was / was not packing the gun or that he found it on the road?

I merely indicated  that we should all wait until the evidence is presented and proven before jumping to conclusions some of which are clearly ridiculous.

I have to say I expected better from you Gottfrid

I have not been jumping to any conclusions.
