Applying for an E-Visa online

Featured Replies

If you were abroad (not Thailand )and it was more convenient to apply from your home Countries Embassy for an E-Visa .

Would that be problematic ?

If you applied online from your home Countries Embassy whilst not being there .

Would that be serious fraud or  minor discrepancy that no one would be bothered about ?

  • Why cat and mouse from start of thread.  If in Laos then state that.  If looking for service to make payment then specify.

  • Why the cryptic questions.  Outline what visa you are wanting to apply for and current location

As you know you are supposed to be in the country from which you apply.  I did a non O last year and needed to supply a utility bill, also needed to provide travel booking from UK to Thailand.  That last part could be problematic.

If you were able to meet all the requirements , would there be an issue ? Like if you were expected to fly in and arrived at  land border instead  ?

You apply for eVisa for Thailand in country where you are located.

Obviously not Thailand.

By way of example folk applying for eVisa in Laos upload their entry to prove location.

eVisas in Laos need to be paid for at an Embassy in Vientiane or Savanakhet and theres a long waiting list for appointments .

If it was more convenient to just apply from your home Country and pay for the eVisa online .

Would that be a minor discrepancy that no one would be bothered or a  major fraud ?

I'm sure people change plans all the time but unless there is a good reason to do what you ask I would avoid the issue.  The e-visa will mention the issuing embassy several times so a super keen IO could make life difficult I'm sure.

I'm not sure that is the case.  The was a report of someone applying for a non-O marriage in Vientiane, Thursday last week.  He got his visa yesterday.

Wouldn't regard it as major fraud more likely application refused.

You pay at embassy/consulate in Laos however not require appointment.

Turn around process times have had many reports of couple of days.

Apply for eVisa in country where you are located.

If Laos not preferred then consider Saigon.

Esp if visa exempt pp for Vietnam.

They accept online payments.

No waiting at Savannakhet, you must pay in cash at their door, you must PROVE you are in Laos when applying...

Indeed.

Those organized have the application all prepared and just add copy of entry stamp as proof of being in country then attend embassy for payment.

Yep, computer work when in Laos, which was a bit of a pain. 🥴

There may have been  rush for applications and appointments to pay when the rules changed a few weeks ago .

There was  ten day queue for appointments  just after the changes .

Maybe its back to normal now with no need to queue for an appointment  .

Huh? Do you get appointment after leaving the application? I remember they used to have the appointment system before that you could reserve from Thailand, but didn't notice that anymore on their site.

No booking at Savannakhet a few months back, all done in 3/4 days.....?

If you were to apply for an EVisa from the Country where you wasn't in .

Would you just get  shrug of the shoulders from Immigration or frog marched to IDC ?

I'm guessing worst case would be refused entry.

Very spurious thread.

The eVisa would be subject to two checks.

Firstly airline at departure.

Also immigration upon entering Thailand.

The plan of applying for eVisa from country where currently not located is ridiculous.

Most likely refused entry.

If via air flown back to where you departed from

Is anyone going to either the  Savannakhet or Vientiane Embassy any time soon ?

I can apply for the visa online , I just need someone to physically make  the payment at the Embassy .

It can be done legitimately as agents in Vientiane have made the payment for others

How are you doing it online outside Laos, as you must prove you are in the country, entry stamp, and then download the payment form to present to the consulate...?  🤔

I should leave the application on Wednesday morning, which I think means I'd pay on Thursday in Vientiane.. Unless plans change..

No problem to have a 3rd party make the payment but bear in mind your application needs to be submitted at the correct place.  You may need to prove where you are.

Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane (Vientiane Capital, Vientiane Province, Bolikhamxay Province, Xayaboury Province, Xaysomboun Province, Luang Prabang Province, Bokeo Province, Luang Namtha Province, Oudomxay Province, Phongsaly Province, Xieng Khouang Province, and Houaphan Province)

Royal Thai Consulate-General in Savannakhet (Savannakhet Province, Khammouane Province, Salavanh Province, Champasak Province, Sekong Province, and Attapea Province)
