An 84-year-old German man was found dead in his hotel room near Kamala Beach, Phuket, after a friend reported being unable to contact him. The discovery occurred on the evening, 30 November 2025.

Phuket police, led by Deputy Inspector Surasit Wandee of Kamala Police Station, said officers were called to the hotel around 19:00. Staff and police accessed the room through the balcony after discovering it was locked from the inside with a chain. The man, identified only as Lothar from Kranz, Germany, was found kneeling at the foot of the bed with his hands and head resting on the mattress, shirtless and appeared to have been deceased for several hours.

The hotel housekeeper, a Myanmar national named Soe, told police she had knocked on the door in the morning to clean the room but received no response. Later, a friend of the deceased informed the hotel that he could not reach him by phone. The locked chain forced the housekeeper to descend from the fourth-floor fire escape to check the room via the balcony.

Police reported no signs of struggle or forced entry. Medications for cholesterol and high blood pressure were found in the room, suggesting potential natural causes. A forensic physician from Vachira Phuket Hospital conducted an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Thai authorities have notified the German Embassy to contact the man’s relatives.

Khoasod reported the case underscores the importance of monitoring elderly tourists’ health and ensuring timely communication, especially in foreign accommodations. Authorities are awaiting the autopsy results to confirm the exact cause of death.

It would be advised not to kneel at the foot of the bed while resting head and hands on the mattress.

Yes, possible . Though we only have the article to go by: meds for cholesterol and high blood pressure, at the foot of the bed, head and hands on mattress. Can only deduce that this combination is something to avoid as per article. Anyway, wish you all the best of health.

Yes makes you think: enjoy your life as much as possible as long as you can. Trouble is as you get into later 70s & 80s your health is less predictable, eyes, legs, mobility. Etc . Although I know a 100 yr lady who goes to philosophy classes & asks intelligent questions.
