You mean nothing will change then?

11:00 am is still ridiculous but getting rid of the equally ridiculous 2-5 is a step in the right direction . Not being able to purchase after midnight is also ridiculous.

The off licence on my road has been open from 4am, seven days a week, selling alcohol for years and years.

Who cares. Everyone knows M&P shops sell the hours they're open. This is about 711's etc.

The article was very clear only 3 venues were exempt from time restrictions. Go back and read it.

Once again you completely misunderstand what the exemptions mean. The exemptions are from ANY restrictions including Buddhist holidays. 711, Big C etc. can now sell alcohol between 2-5 pm nation wide.

So if I go and enjoy a meal in a restaurant after 2 pm, will I be served?

Yes. The 2-5 pm alcohol sales ban HAS BEEN LIFTED and lifted nation wide.

Not with food, but you might get a cold beer?☺️

Saw this sign in our local(ish) Makros, newly-opened today. In the English version, the sticker covering "& 5pm -12am" seems to have fallen off.

I'm not a day drinker. But to me this just means I can buy a bottle of wine in the afternoon when doing the weekly supermarket trek, instead of racing through it at lunch time to beat the clock.

Many of the main pubs and entertainment joints in Bangkok served booze all afternoon regardless of the law. So that raises a question in my mind... Does this legal amendment mean the owners of those places don't need to pay off the authorities any more as the law is now on their side? Also, is this really a deliberate kack-handed blow to the authorities who were making money off this - but tended to support a certain political party no longer in power? Since this amendment is so long overdue, it really makes me wonder 'why now'.

Why 10 p.m.? Do they close at 10 p.m.? I thought, the hours are now 11 a.m. to midnight... 🤔

That's why I just haha'd  his sign. It's just supposed to read 11am to 12am but the English genius at macro was proud of his/her sign most likely.

This comment @villageidiotY2K does your profile name justice especially the idiot part of it.

Yes, they close at 10 pm so can't sell anything after that time. The sign is obviously specific to that branch of Makro, not general info. for the masses, so why advertise sales outside their opening hours?

As in all things Thailand, the Thai language sign takes precedence. English is just a courtesy. The sign isn't "supposed to read 11am to 12am" for this shop because the place isn't open for the last 2 hours of that period.

Some people just can't help finding fault!

Nope.  You go and try to buy and let us know how it goes for you.

I purchased a bottle of JD at my local 7/11 yesterday at 3.30pm... signs up displaying the selling hours.

Obviously was not a Buddha day so cannot comment on that.

I stand corrected. The last iteration does suspends the retail  time restrictions for  only 180 days with input from the provincial level on performance.

There is no such thing as 12 am/pm it is either midnight or midday. I would hate to have my airline booking stating 12am/pm. Coud be waiting for 12 hours!

Midnight is officially 00.00, and noon is 12.00. am/pm is not needed on 24 hour clock.

People like myself have been pointing this out to you since it was announced but you continued to fight back. Glad you've seen the light and accepted you were wrong. This change will not be reversed IMO. Next step will be to open before the ridiculous 11 am start and extend the midnight cut off both of which are not founded in common sense.

Noon 12 pm midnight 12 am.

As long as you know then it doesnt really matter what you want to call it.

An easier way would be Dark 12 and Daylight 12. 5555

But midnight IS 00.00, and noon is 12 am or pm.

If as you suggest, midnight is 12am, then onto 12.59am,, what comes next?

12 am is midnight. 12 pm is midday. End of story. Noon, as in afternoon, cannot be both post-meridiem (pm) and ante-meridiem (am). Amazing that you don't know this. Mind you I have seen in Thai schoolbooks midnight being shown as 12 pm and midday being shown as 12 am.

1:00 am as in 1:00 am in the morning. This is followed by 2 am 3 am etc until 11:59 am which is in the morning followed by 12:00 pm until 11:59 pm which is afternoon and evening. This is followed by 12:00 am and it's back to being in the morning. This is lower primary school knowledge.

Of course I know that noon cannot be am or pm, as it is neither it is the meridian for that microsecond.

It is much easier and explanatory that midnight is 00.00, one minute to one is 00.59 followed by 01.00, noon is 12.00 and one minute after is...........you guessed it, 12.01.

Shops associated with petrol stations cannot sell alcohol (pretty old ruling).

Mom and Pop places that sell fuel in whisky bottles, since when have any rules applied? :whistling:

Before when I finished work at the Port I used to stop at the service station on the drive home for a couple of beers. Was the same with many other people. Music, food, beers lovely.

That first service station outside Sirachar must have lost a good trade.

It may have been in the Lower Primary School which you went to.  5555

Yep. 12:01 pm not 12:01 am/pm.

I work in an export zone in Laem Chabang.... 5pm the 7/11 was rammed with workers buying booze.

The 7/11 got told to stop selling, luckily there was an empty shop behind and an  old lady rented and started selling beers out of there, she was raking it in!

No, on the 24 hour you do not need am or pm. 12.01 is a minute after the noon meridian
