Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia have announced a boycott of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest following the decision to allow Israel's participation. The move is in protest against Israel's involvement due to the conflict in Gaza and alleged unfair voting practices. The EBU's meeting in Geneva rejected a secret ballot request on the issue, leading to increased distrust among several broadcasters regarding the contest’s governance.

Spain, one of Eurovision's "Big Fives," played a leading role in the boycott, emphasising the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The contest, viewed by over 150 million globally, faced controversy as discussions arose about voting reforms. The BBC confirmed all members must comply with new rules intended to prevent external influence on voting, with compliance linked to Israel's participation approval.

Israel’s President, Isaac Herzog, praised the decision, citing it as an affirmation of inclusion and cultural unity. Israel’s broadcaster KAN condemned the boycott efforts as cultural discrimination. Meanwhile, reactions across Europe varied, with some countries expressing discontent and others welcoming the stabilising rule changes.

Looking ahead, Belgium's broadcaster has yet to decide its course of action concerning the contest. Iceland is postponing its decision on participation until next week. Germany, backing Eurovision’s inclusivity, affirmed its commitment to the contest irrespective of Israel's participation, reported the BBC.

Well they got your attention,

So does the dog that defecates outside the local 711.

I don't care who they include.

But, the will need to change the name: "Yesterday Euro- tomorrow the whole Worldvision Singalong Contest Thingy",

or, "The Contest Formerly Called Euro- But Now AnythingGoesVision"

and while they're at it: it's actually a song contest - that means emphasis on AUDIO, not VISION:

"SingSongSound Contest For Europe and One Selected Middle Eastern Country With Room For More, If They Pay Enough"

There you have it, all correct and clear.

Why were they allowed to compete before to begin with when Israel isn’t part of Europe?
