Please turn off your computer and refrain from powering it on again. It's best for your well-being to disconnect completely.

Install Linux. Takes less than a minute to update a Linux system.

But if you just want to stop them, get Windows Update Blocker v1.8.  You can use it to turn off Windows Updates unless you specifically WANT to run the updates.  It will kill the background processes unless you turn them on.

Go back to Windows 10 ,you won't get any updates

That was the promise, yet here we are.....I need an update - still using Win10 on one of my computers. Been dodging it for a while now.

Did you not install the last November update as I don't think there have been any since then have there?

The next Patch Tuesday is this coming one where I am sure there will be some security updates for those on ESU or the LTSC versions.

PC and laptop are on the one year W10 "ESU" (Extended Security Updates).

Only four updates since mid October. Last one about some Defender update.

That's fine.

Of course I will not advice to stop Windows updates.

About 500 million devices still on W10.

Even 250 million that would be HW compatible.

Still strong and good resistance against this final privacy break in named W11.

Gave me one more year to think about the Windows exit.

@ukrules sorry I meant the October one.

Windows defender itself updates at least once and sometimes twice a day - although I use WUMGR to control it and other updates so have to do manually myself.

I haven't installed any updates this particular computer for a while now.

It still pops up something every few days even though I keep pausing them - so I repaused again - this time it stretches into January 2026.

It's the Pro version so there is a little more flexibility with the pauses but they do go away and seem to come back again pretty quickly.

I won't be surprised one bit if Microsoft backtracks early next year and reinstates updates for all again, especially as there's still just under half the Windows computers out there running v10 apparently.

Most people who can't upgrade to Win 11 don't realise that the 'requirements' for installing it are already on their computer - this TPM is already on many older computers but it's just disabled by default in the BIOS - but then again many don't know what a BIOS is...so good luck with that, lol

There's been quite a few, but mainly to do with Defender. I do an update search every morning at coffee time..🤗
