Trump Taking Over Canada?

Featured Replies

This guy claims Trump is basically taking over Canada.

Even though Canada will on the surface elect its prime minister and appear to be sovereign, Trump is taking over Canada and controlling the entire Western hemisphere.

Nah, I eat this sad bunch of downvoters for breakast.

Why not.  He should fly some B1 and B2 bombers over the interior of Canada and station a carrier battle group off of each coast and demand that Canada surrenders its entire oil reserves and natural resources to the US - or else!

Trump is not taking over Canada, nor does he want to make Canada a US state. Trump is doing what he believes is in the best interests of the USA. That's his job. He makes his comments about 51st state because it gets Canadians attention  and has forced Canada to stop talking and take action. If it wasn't for Trump Canada would not have;

- Invested in border security and taken action on its drug  and auto theft crisis.

- Started to invest in an ability to defend its sovereignty. Canada still cannot patrol and enforce its territorial borders because it does not have a naval fleet, or air capability that can do that.  Because of Trump, Canada's military personnel finally have a pay raise and improved benefits.

- Started to reduce interprovincial trade barriers. It is often just as hard to trade across internal jurisdictions in Canada as it is to do foreign business.

- Started to diversify the economy and to consider self sustainability.

Trump for all of his bluster, has basically told the fat 27 year old slob sleeping on his parents sofa in the basement to get a job and to grow up.

It's about time Canada had someone with cojones in a leadership role.

He would give them something they've never had before - a red-blooded history.

The Quebecans (Quebecians, Quebecees), whatever, laid the grounds for separation from the Canadian Confederation a few decades ago. They've had a few referendums already, but they really know their non-revenue generating province can't afford to stop suckling on the teats of the proverbial suckling pig of Alberta and BC . I mean, they're French for God's sake - 19th Century French language, and a native Parisian hearing them thinks they're German (or possibly Spanish with an Italian accent), but nevertheless, French in temperament, and communists to the core.

Alberta and the cojoined provinces however are well on the way to sticking it up the nose of Commissar Carney. Whether they become the 51st US state or an independent country remains to be seen, but they've had enough of Ottawa asking them to bring their own vaseline to the party, and then taxing them on their own vaseline and double charging for the alcoholic beverages. The provincial referendums are being organised and circa 50% of the over-taxed citizens are on board already.

Legislation exists for them all to have a federally binding referendum on separation from the confederacy as soon as 2026.  The world laughed when Trump mentioned the possibility - it ain't quite so funny now.

I have great fun teasing a Canuck friend that he'll soon be an Amurcan, He's from BC and doesn't have a clue what's happening in his own country because the CBC aren't telling him about it. :coffee1:

When I was there I didn't have any problems understanding their French.

You mentioned previously that the gardener was French

I don't know where you get your numbers from but the 50% of Albertans being pro separatist are just fantasy.

One of the polling firms in Alberta was found to be owned and controlled by the take back Alberta group, a evangelical hyper religious group, so their numbers are very skewed

Our premier is trying to play both sides of the street.

Her background is as leader of the Wildrose Independence Party, and now leader of the UCP which is a very pro separatist bunch backed by the AEG group (Alberta Enterprise Group) this group is equivalent to the Heritage Foundation in the US, and they provide backing and expertise.

The breakdown is about 10% hardcore separatist, become a separate country or join the US, a large part of these people are not surprisingly dual US/Canadian citizens

Another 10 % are just disgruntled jump on a bandwagon types, driving around with a flag honking the horn during covid type of people

The squeaky wheels get the media attention and the rest of us just keep on about our daily life.

I'm from Edmonton and right in the middle of all this BS.

We aren't separating, it's not possible for starters and is just a bunch of media wind up

No. You've got it wrong. Most have you blocked and the few who actually waste their time reading your posts give you a thumbs down before they block you.

I don't block you because I'm entertained by the drivel you post.

A lot of people block a lot of people.

People generally flock towards other people with the same mindset because they want their own sense of reality reinforced.

Trump would need more than four years to undo the damage trudeau has done there

But this isn't about provinces separating.

It's about Trump invoking some obscure law or doctrine or sth to claim he has rights to Canada's resources because the US is the dominant force in the hemisphere.

Here is another video just popping into my feeds.

Trump is claiming "no foreign ownership of key assets in this part of the world" are allowed.

A bit vague, but ominous sounding ...
