Soap Scum or Limescale on Bathroom Wall Tiles - How to Remove ?

Featured Replies

Is this classed as limescale...? I cannot get this off dark tiles in 2 shower rooms at all.

Tried soap and a brush, then a scourer...

Then tried vinegar and soap, a brush, then a scourer... and this is current condition when it dries.

3 attempts in 4 days of hard scrubbing...fatigue as when its wet it looks like its gone till it dries.

Currently trying to get a house in shape that has got a bit run down.

Citric acid powder you buy on lazada, mix with hot water and spray, spray a few more times every 10 minutes and clean off with a brush

citrus powder cleaning thailand for cleaning lime in shower?

Citrus powder cleaning products, which typically contain
citric acid, are highly effective for removing limescale (hard water deposits) in showers. Citric acid works by breaking down the calcium carbonate that forms limescale, making it easy to rinse away.

How to Use Citric Acid Powder
You can easily make a powerful descaling solution using food-grade citric acid powder, which is widely available in supermarkets or online.

For General Shower Cleaning (Tiles, Sinks, Fixtures)
  1. Mix a 5-7% solution by adding about 2 tablespoons of citric acid powder to 500ml (about 2 cups) of warm water in a spray bottle. Warm water helps the powder dissolve faster and makes the solution more effective.
  2. Spray the surface, ensuring good coverage on limescale and hard water stains.
  3. Wait for a few minutes (around 15 minutes for tough stains) to allow the acid to work on the mineral deposits.
  4. Wipe the area with a damp cloth or sponge, and then rinse thoroughly with water.

For Heavy Limescale Buildup (Shower Heads)
  1. Remove the shower head if possible.
  2. Soak the affected parts in a more concentrated solution (around 10% dilution, 1 part powder to 10 parts water) for about 30 minutes, or longer if the build-up is severe.
  3. Rinse well and wipe clean.

Important Precautions
  • Do not use citric acid on porous surfaces like natural stone (marble, granite, etc.), wood, or surfaces protected by wax or certain sealers, as the acid can damage them.
  • Wear gloves, especially if you have sensitive skin or open wounds, as the solution can cause stinging.
  • Always do a patch test on an inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility with your shower surfaces.
  • Citric acid does not produce harsh fumes, making it a safer and more natural alternative to some chemical cleaners.
You can purchase citric acid powder in Thailand from local supermarkets, cleaning supply stores, or online retailers like Lazada or Shopee

Try the Duck Pro  cleaner in the purple container   it has hydrochloric acid  15 percent and is quite aggressive so wear gloves and perhaps eye protection too, don't let it stand too long or it will eat the grout

and don't let it mix with bleach or there will be a very nasty gas produced !!!

Started to use it for cleaning animals water bowls, and now use it for cleaning toilet, shower, you name it. But it helps to put a few chlorine tablets in your water tank, as well have a water softener system/filter

That's the one that nailed it...took 3 bottles of the stuff !

Thanks and thanks to others above that did a big step-by-step guide....

Just would look awful to anyone visiting the way those walls were before.....

Probably combination of both limescale and shower residue.

You can buy limescale remover on Lazada for around 200 for decent spray and possibly try WD-40. Not 100% sure it will work but I do know it works on glass shower screens as used it before when nothing else worked.

P.S: You might already know this but if you stop using soap you will not get the build up in showers that is the fatty deposit from the soap. I discovered this when I started using shower gel years ago.

Watch out with some of those cleaners because they tarnish metal faucets and drains.

ARO brand in Makro is the best deal I have found. 22% hydrochloric acid.

Follow the instructions or it will melt Scotchbrite.

For the shower area, I buy a gallon of household bleach and pour it down the walls, leave for an hour, then shower the walls down.

An 8" wall extractor fan pulls the condensation out of the room, which helps too...🤗
