Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a warning to Thai citizens in Cambodia, urging those who can leave to consider doing so due to increased border tensions. Approximately 600 to 1,200 Thais reside in Cambodia. The Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh and the Consulate in Siem Reap are in active communication with the Thai community, offering updates on the developing situation.

The advisory recommends that Thais in Cambodia who do not have essential reasons to stay should leave and advises against non-essential travel to the country. This is a precautionary measure as the situation remains unpredictable. Nikorndej Balankura, an MFA spokesman, emphasized the importance of staying informed and remaining vigilant.

Assistance is being provided by the Royal Thai Embassy and Consulate for any citizens needing emergency support. The Consular Department has a 24-hour Call Center available for immediate help, and the Thai Consular mobile app offers additional resources. This cautionary move by the Thai government reflects concerns over potential escalation along the Cambodian border.

Looking forward, Thai authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary. Citizens are encouraged to remain in touch with consular services for the latest information. The emphasis is on prioritizing safety until conditions improve, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Thai government advises citizens in Cambodia to leave if possible.
  • Non-essential travel to Cambodia is discouraged.
  • Support is available through the Thai Embassy and Consulate.

Time to cancel the flights to Cambodia, they do target Thais on arrival and have been doing so for months now - even prior to these new incidents.

That sounds unbelievably low to me.

But in any case, this really isn't a great time to be a Thai in Cambodia or a Cambodian in Thailand.

That was my first thought.  But that may be the ones that have the correct visa and WP.

I'll bet there's more than that in some of the scam centers and casino complexes alone.
