Police in Sakon Nakhon moved quickly on the morning of 11 December, after receiving a report of a suspected infant corpse found in scrubland near Ban Sai Thong, in the Nong Sai Khao community of Mueang District. The alert, at 10:00, prompted senior officers and forensic teams to respond immediately due to the serious nature of the initial claim. The discovery raised concern among residents until authorities could confirm what had been found.

Officers from Mueang Sakon Nakhon Police Station, led by Pol Col Apirak Sriharaksa, attended the scene with the duty officer from the 20 Patrol Unit. Medical examiners from Sakon Nakhon Hospital and police forensic investigators joined the inspection to determine the origin of the remains. Their involvement followed standard protocol for any report suggesting the possible death of a child.

Officials examined the site, located in a small forested area before the entrance to Ban Sai Thong. Early observations indicated that the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, prompting careful forensic checks. The team needed to distinguish between human remains and those of an animal to ensure the investigation proceeded correctly.

After a detailed inspection, authorities confirmed the remains belonged to an animal, not a human infant as initially reported. They determined that the carcass had likely been buried there by someone before decaying. With the conclusion established, officers formally closed the case and notified local residents that no crime involving a child had occurred.

The clarification helped prevent further distress in the community, which had briefly feared a more serious incident. Police emphasised that responding thoroughly to such reports is essential to maintaining public confidence. Forensic teams noted that similar misunderstandings occasionally arise when decomposed animal remains are mistaken for human bodies, especially in rural areas.

A good news thread.

Well not for the dead animal anyway.

You'd think that this would be the time and place to wear a face mask.

Maybe not, they should only be worn when driving in the car alone.
