K+app: face scan for everything required

Featured Replies

Several calls to their call center, they say:

You now need a face scan if you want to use the app at all, for the "first registration".

If you have been using the app until now, but never did a face scan (like me), you have to do the face scan now.

You also need it for several other functions,  eg changing limits or changing the device (don't buy a new mobile for K+ when you are not in Thailand!).

@scubascuba3 and the other posters have probably done a face scan in the past?

Your OP was misleading at best, because you mentioned that the app asked you to "do a face scan again". As it turns out now, you hadn't registered for face scans previously at all, so why did you write "again"?

Because the app said "again"

The app also said "for the first time" - I have been using the app for a long time.

More importantly, were they also able to tell you what needed to be done (and by whom) for your use of the K+ app to be restored?

"Go to the branch for a face scan.

Without face scan,  no app."

But at least I get back my money,  I was able to use the ATM today.

I didn't say it was mandatory...........

I can see that one day it will be.

According to Kbank  call center, it is now mandatory for internet banking and mobile banking

That looks the same as if you've installed the app on a new phone, or deleted and re-installed it. Could be that something went wrong with the update you've mentioned. Strange.

Exactly the same as my experience:

According to their call center,  the next update of the app will be in 1st quarter 2026.

I am sure,  all bugs and glitches will be fixed with the new update.

What's interesting there is that my K-Plus app hasn't been updated since Nov 23rd and that no new update is available to me when I check (as of right now).

So I'm wondering if they've rolled out a poorly tested, buggy version to some users by accident, then realized it and recalled the update. That would explain why some users are affected while others aren't.

Okay, so it isn't some mysterious December version that others didn't get. That very version hasn't caused any issues for me.

100% correct here, even with recent new rules or restrictions Thailand is still the wet dream of many westerns. We can still use cash everywhere, you can easily still withdraw a few million baht cash on a last minute notice (perhaps with a few accounts) or deposit such amounts without questions asked.

Meanwhile a EU bank nearly closed my account for just receiving twice 5-15K and asked tons of questions. Depositing cash? What cash? Forget that too lol, you even need to pay for it big time. It's now even illegal to pay cash for more than 2-3K on top. Not to mention repeated KYC (identity check + address proof check, often notarized for business, costing me 2-3K euro a year alone).

Transfers are still very high limits even by default, in Europe many already make issues for 500 euro a day aka under 20K baht), let alone over 5K daily with manual adjusted settings as a maximum for transfers or payments total.

Personally no clue what the OP is on about, only when I do large payments I need to do a face scan otherwise nothing at all ever changed. The last time I needed to do it was when I scanned a QR code for 55-60K baht to purchase a Emirates business class flight.

I like the safety, it's 1 second to do. With Iphone this is even the default way to do anything, face scan, even for auto fill of my passwords.

Face scan with the Thai banks is not a 1 second operation, with some it even fails most of the time. Bangkok bank - LH Bank - CIMB spring to mind.

Iphone face scan has nothing to do with what the banks apply, as one is the Iphone software and the other is at the banks server end

An Emirates business flight to Europe is at least double that these days, so it either was a short haul or many years ago.

I guess both of you have done a face scan with them in the past?

I have never done it, as the bank told me repeatedly I don't need to, as long as my transactions are less than 50,000.

(And I wasn't keen on it, have seen too many horror shows of face scan,  never less than 30 minutes,  if successful at all)

Now the app update forced me to do it. Otherwise I cannot use the app at all. No more limitations for transactions exceeding 50,000.

But the branch couldn't do it. Today I will try another branch.

BTW the app still sends me notifications of transactions,  so maybe it's really broken and the new update wo fix it...

  • Author

BTW the other branch couldn't do the scan, and after calling back office told me: maybe in the future.

I thought good idea to add my experience.

I just try to call the call centre through the Kbank app, and I required to do a face scan to make a CALL!!!!

Have you ever heard of such a silly requirement?

So I had to complete the face scan before I could press the call button.

My first question to the representative was, how silly can you get that a face scan is needed to make a phone call.

The answer was that it was requited by the government, so every call to check a transaction needs face scan. Maybe some other functions also require face scan.

For product information, no face scan is required.

So in short, to enter the menu of the call centre a fingerprint is required.

After you select which topic, your PIN is required.

Then you press call, and depending on which topic you selected, a face scan is required, after which the call button becomes active.

Paranoia has reached unseen levels with Thai banks.

of course it needs to be your account to check a transaction so it IDs you for that, maybe quicker than going through passwords, memorable address etc. Makes sense to some of us

You already use fingerprint and PIN before you get to the topic selection.

Only makes sense to argumentative posters.

More likely a case of paranoia reaching unseen levels with local banking regulators in the Bank of Thailand, I think. Either that, or the possibility that said regulators are a bunch of sadists who delight in inflicting the maximum pain and misery humanly possible on personal bank account holders.

Yipee! Can't wait for K+ Mk Whatever to be rolled out, which will no doubt necessitate me having to fork out a small fortune on a new phone just to get the bloody thing to work.

Sure, they told me this many times. If I were Kbank, I would tell my customers the same.  Best excuse possible.

BTW today was the first time,  Kbank really hurt me: I needed a coffee, and the shop only accepted QR. No cash, no cards.  No coffee for me.

For that kind of small-amount PromptPay payment, I don't even use my bank apps anymore. That's what TrueMoney is perfect for. Worth considering, at least as a backup option.

I only use truemoneywallet in 7 eleven, can you scan anywhere that accepts QR?

Sounds good.

I have never been interested in TrueMoney. There was a thread about it, but AN is not searchable...

Do you have to connect your TrueMoney to your bank account,  or can you just use it as a prepaid account?

Yes. It supports both.

You don't need to connect it. You have the option to top up your TrueMoney wallet from your bank account (for example, using the K-Plus app, once you get it to work again). You also have the option to top it up with cash (at 7-Eleven). Someone else can top it up for you from their bank account, too.
