Samsung S21 FE 5G white line on screen fault

Featured Replies

After recently unpdating my phone, the day after I noticed it had a white line on the right hand edge of the screen. I Googled hoping to find a solution, and followed all their suggestions to no avail. Similarly on the Samsung chat line, which chronicled that it was a common occurrence with Samsung.

Accordingly I went to Samsung Service Centre and they advised the remedy was to replace the screen ("Octa") at a cost of THB2400. I also had to replace the glass screen protection (THB300), which they had to break to fix the fault.

Having researched as extensively as I wanted to, I thought I would just proceed, and get the screen fixed before it deteriorated further.

I have written to Samsung, as there is clearly a fault in their product, widely discussed on YT and other social media. I think they should offer to fix their design fault for free, but we'll see if they'll share that view.

Herewith a screenshot example of the white line, (in the centre of the screen in this case).

You are lucky, I had the same problem with S 22 ultra and had to pay around 6,000 Baht for screen replacement.

There was a class action lawsuit involving the Thai Consumers Council on this issue last year, previous similar suits had been filed in India and other places.

Doesn't look as though it got very far...

...although they charged me 50% of the normal cost.

Anyway, clearly Samsung has a design fault. I heard they recalled hundreds of thousands. Not having a phone is a surprising restriction, as I discovered wandering around for 2 hours until it was fixed.

How did you manage  find your way back to the store without GPS 😋

Did your 2 hours without phone  give you a wake up call to maybe not be so dependant upon it for 'everything' ?

keep some cash in your pocket perhaps ?

That would have been a great point in some other recent threads...  Keep it in your back pocket.

As far as the Samsung "line on the screen issue", everything I'm reading indicates it happens right after a system upgrade.  That seems rather mysterious.   Or is it just forced obsolescence?  And does it happen on their A series (cheap-ass) phones to people who don't have the $$ to upgrade when Samsung wants them to, or just to the people who would tend to spend the money?  My A05s is still kicking, going on over 2 years now.  But then, I'm a cheap bustard when it comes to smartphones.

I hope the OP posts back if he gets any monetary satisfaction from Samsung.  Or not, as the case may be.  I'm also curious whether his phone was in the warranty period.

I couldn't receive a wake up call, because I had no phone😉

Yes, I carry a wallet with cash and credit cards. No, I couldn't receive their alert to when it might be fixed, (if earlier than the scheduled 2 hours), or tell my other half that would be incommunicado for two hours. Nothing life threatening, just an observation that we rely so much on phones these days for so many things that are not obviously apparent. I am nearly 70 so "my head buried in my phone" is rarely as prolonged as the new norm.

I'm in discussion with them. No, not within warranty, but never dropped, and used with a clear silicone protector.

It seems to be just the flagship phones.

As I recall, they have the nicer OLED screens. (or whatever Samsung calls them)

But the wingnut conspiracy fan in me suspects darker motives and algorithms.

Would be interesting to learn whether the repair resolved your white line problem.

alternative would have been to buy a new phone for 2400 baht, plenty to choose .

Yes, the repair fixed the problem. Actually it was fixed with a replacement screen.

I wrote a recorded delivery letter to the Thailand CEO Mr Jun Young-Hyun but still awaiting reply, which I dare say will be like waiting for Godot. It confirms what many have written online. I wrote after no response to LINE official or their "Customer Service" hotline, or their "Email to CEO's Office" on their website, which is obviously how much Samsung value their customers after sales.

I bought a couple of 24" Samsung monitors for my desktop computer about 15 years ago and within a week one of them developed these faint white lines across the bottom of the screen. Initially there were only 8 of them but gradually they multiplied till now there are 32. They grew by powers of 2 so probably something wrong with one of the driver chips. They start off fairly prominently on the right side of the screen and gradually fade to invisible on the left side. I contacted Samsung and since the monitor was under warranty they said they would replace it if I sent it by mail to their office in another city. I would be without  monitor for about a month so I decided to live with the fault and 15 years later it is still there. It is somewhat annoying but not to the extent of me bothering to get it replaced. The other monitor which is exactly the same model and age never showed the problem.
