Bangkok Bank requires face scan for withdrawals over 5,000 baht

I tried to withdrawal money this morning from a Bangkok Bank ATM. I needed 25,000 baht, and it required a face scan - "smile with no teeth showing, smile with teeth showing, blink three times". It was always rejected. I kept lowering the withdrawal amount - 5,000 baht required the scan, but 4,000 baht went through. So I stood there and did seven withdrawals.

Their system is buggy and creepy.

What are your daily limits? Can you change them?

App: Settings, Daily limits...

Did you ever successfully set-up a face scan? If not, go to your branch and have them set it up, or bypass it.

My daily limit is 50,000 baht. I was able to withdraw 25,000 baht, but I had to do it 4,000 baht at a time, so I don't think daily limit was a problem.

Face scan was set up originally and has a green checkmark in my app settings.

My iPhone XR FaceID for login works less than 50 percent of the time, so I think my phone may have some sort of problem with the selfie camera.

Will Bangkok Bank turn off this requirement? It just started with the most recent app update.

Does the app not have a setting where you can set the face scan limit per transaction?

I'm with Kasikorn and in their app I can set the face scan limit to 5,000, 10,000, 20,000 or 50,000

Thanks! Yes - they must have just added this. I used it for over two years and this never happened. Of course, it requires a face scan to change the setting from 5,000 baht and it won't take mine, but I guess I can go to the bank for help.

You tried to withdraw cardless or with your ATM card?

Cardless.

Doubt it. All Thai banks are, I have concluded, out to make life for their personal account holders just as difficult and awkward as it humanly can be, at the insistence of their regulators in the Bank Of Thailand.

Do you have a BBL ATM card?

If so, maybe try using it.

What is your "Cardless withdrawal at ATM" limit in the app? (Settings, Daily limits, Cardless withdrawal at ATM).

What is your Total daily limit?

I'd stop by a branch and sort this out, probably a very quick fix.

I didn't bother renewing the card. The app just updated and put me at a 5,000 baht limit for withdrawals. I can change it from the app, but it won't accept my face id.

Will have to go to the bank.

I am with TTB and I had to go to the bank first to set it up before it would work.

When required it is not actually a face scan, it is a comparison with what is held on the system. When I do it myself it is always hit and miss but when I went for extension docs, girl just pointed her Ipad and said turn your head, no problem.

Knock on wood, so far it hasn't hit me in Udon. I know because I've never knowingly had a face scan, don't like them and will refuse if given the opportunity. I know it hasn't hit because my wife uses my card whenever we need cash.

Immigration have your face scan, don't they?

This topic is about cardless withdrawals though; the face scan requirement doesn't apply to withdrawals by card for obvious reasons.
