A Thai van driver attacked a foreign woman with a plastic bottle outside Phuket International Airport on December 18, following a disagreement over rubbish allegedly left in his vehicle. The incident, occurring near the busy Entrance 2 of the passenger terminal at 9pm, was captured on video and quickly gained attention on Thai social media.

The recorded footage shows the driver in a heated argument with the woman, aggressively demanding she clean the van. Moments later, he struck her on the head with the bottle, shocking the woman and triggering a confrontation by another foreign passenger. An airport security officer intervened to defuse the situation.

The altercation reportedly began after the driver found rubbish inside his van and insisted the passenger clean it up. When the woman allegedly refused, tensions escalated, leading to the physical confrontation. The incident has led to a robust online debate, with criticism largely directed at the driver's aggressive behavior.

Thai netizens expressed disapproval of the assault, emphasizing that violence is unacceptable, especially from a public transport driver. Some stressed that drivers should maintain professionalism and manage disputes peacefully, pointing out that cleaning vehicles is generally a job expectation. However, others argued that passengers should responsibly manage their own waste, with some suggesting both parties were at fault.

The Sakhu Police Station acknowledged the incident and is collaborating with Phuket Airport officials to review CCTV footage. Authorities intend to identify the van driver and have indicated that the Phuket Provincial Transport Office will potentially impose penalties, including revoking the driver’s public transport license, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • A van driver's assault on a passenger at Phuket Airport sparked outrage.
  • Online debate highlights differing views on responsibility for vehicle cleanliness.
  • Police are investigating and may penalize the driver with a license revocation.

Yes.  But that's exactly what happens where they come from.  The idiot tourist would never have thought for a second what they are doing is wrong.  It's normal for them to expect a serf to tidy up after them.  Sad.

Unwise behaviour by the driver but he has my sympathy. The mess left by Arab tourists is often disgusting.

It should be a Law not to eat in any public transport, I thought they had signs in them minivans "No Food" if not then they should have, He's wrong to hit her over the head, maybe he had enough of them that day he could have been at the airport a few times that day, I know a minivan driver he once told me can be as many as 9 times a day to pick up from the airport,

She should be fined for Littering in a Publc Vehicle,
