Bangkok police have arrested a 44-year-old delivery rider accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old Bolt rider following a road rage altercation in the Sai Mai area, bringing a swift end to an urgent manhunt. The teenager died at the scene late on 20 December 2025, prompting public alarm after dashcam footage of the attack circulated widely.

The victim was identified as Mr Witthawat “Moo” Phluasawat, aged 16, who worked as a Bolt motorcycle rider. He was riding a Honda Giorno motorcycle, registration from Bangkok, when he was stabbed once in the right side of the chest above the nipple and collapsed on the pavement near the entrance to Soi Sai Mai 74/1 in Sai Mai district.

Investigators said the incident followed a minor collision between two motorcycles, after which the riders pursued one another along the road. The suspect then stopped, assaulted the teenager and used a knife to stab him before fleeing the scene.

Police identified the suspect as Mr Thongchai Thapprem, also known as “Kob”, aged 44, a Line Man rider. He was riding a white Honda Wave motorcycle, registration 9 ขก 7206 Bangkok and was seen in dashcam footage recorded by a passing motorist at the time of the attack.

At 4.00pm on 21 December 2025, officers from Metropolitan Police Division 2 and Sai Mai Police Station arrested Mr Thongchai at a house in Bang Phli Noi, Bang Bo district, Samut Prakan. The arrest was made under a Min Buri Criminal Court warrant issued the same day, charging him with murder and carrying a knife in public without reasonable cause.

Police seized evidence including the clothes worn during the attack, a pair of bloodstained trainers and the suspect’s motorcycle. Investigators said Mr Thongchai removed the licence plate and abandoned it in the Bang Phli area in an attempt to evade capture after fleeing into Samut Prakan province.

Senior officers said the suspect claimed the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding and told investigators he felt deep regret. Authorities said the case underlined the severe consequences of escalating road disputes and confirmed that formal questioning continued at Sai Mai Police Station later that evening.

Daily News reported that police said the investigation would proceed in accordance with the law, with prosecutors to consider the evidence gathered, including video footage and witness statements. Further legal steps will follow as the case moves through the judicial process.
